There's been a trade. A rival Tampa sends Pham to Padres for Renfroe. https://www.mlb.com/news/padres-rays-deal-tommy-pham-hunter-renfroe
Was being facetious... I guess it hurts them to lose a good clubhouse guy. Seem's like an even trade And. I'd expect CFM to be available at deadline should they falter
Sorry if this was already posted. Astros president of baseball operations and general manager Jeff Luhnow said that the early movement on the pitching market -- Cole Hamels signed with Atlanta and Zack Wheeler, with Philadelphia -- could lead to him making some deals in San Diego. “I’m excited the market seems to be moving more quickly this year and we’re certainly going to be having all the relevant conversations in San Diego and I’d love to make a transaction or two,” Luhnow said. “We’ll have to wait and see how it goes. It is encouraging teams are active and players and agents are willing to do things earlier they have in the past two years. That all bodes well for a more active San Diego Meetings
A lot. He isn’t a free agent for another 3 years. He has the talent to hit 3-5 in our line up and has all the tools behind the plate. His effort has been questioned but his production has been solid and his upside is very high. He would be a major acquisition for the Astros offense and potentially defensively.
Apparently the Astros are monitoring right hander Josh Lindblom's market. Sounds like he sucked early on in the MLB, went to Korea and did decent. Supposedly he's a spin rate darling so no surprise that they would be interested. This according to Jon Morosi.
I think the question is would we actually give those assets up. We paid a pretty penny for Greinke. It would be hard to imagine acquiring Contreras without giving up one of Whitley or Tucker. Would I do it? I’m not sure honestly.
I wouldn’t say we pay penny for Greinke. I like what I saw with Greinke in Astros uniform but he wasn’t lights out except for the near no-no and game 7. We gave up 4 solid players IMO. Can’t wait to have him full season next year. BTW, is there really zero chance of Cole coming back? Has Astros brass even schedule a meeting with Cole and Boras? If there’s a slight chance of Cole resigning here, do we need to trade Greinke to make it happen?
Cole knows the Astros, there’s little too sell him on. If he resigned here I’d hope we kept Greinke (and they are close friends) so I think he’d want an agreement he stays
Current ranking of Astros according to fan graphs depth chart war projections: C 26 1B 13 2B 1 SS 1 3B 1 RF 10 CF 2 LF 6 DH 1 Total position player 1 SP 7 RP 4 Total pitching 3 Total 1 There’s a lot of projected war still remaining in free agency. But if Houston adds a solid starting catcher (Castro or Contreras) and a good SP they will likely be the favorites to win the World Series.
My guess is this is just NYY setting their floor. I don’t see NYY *not* offering in the 270-280 range if push comes to shove.
