Flip the teams and the records and I guarantee Skip would have a filibuster on why the game from the missed call should be replayed

The point is refs miss calls like that ALL THE TIME, there a lot of things to be taken into account on a basketball court, Harden was BY HIMSELF DUNKING THE BALL, that ref saw the ball go into the basket and did not give us the two points.

The refs saw the ball come up and probably missed the it going in. The dunk was really quick and they probably missed it going in. The egregious part was not allowing a review.

But that still is no where near enough to "challenge the game" when both teams can add up the ledger on bad or missed calls.

Yea it is, especially when you see the ref's statement post game and he BLATANTLY LIED. Dantoni was asking for a review on the basket and the refs said he didnt. Not to mention refs can absolutely review baskets like this without a challenge, someone posted a link of refs doing that exact thing for the Spurs.

So should the Rockets have 2 pts removed from a blatant missed backcourt violation that led directly to a buzzer beating dunk?

No because that play isnt reviewable. And the referee didnt lie about not seeing it or not being able to review it.

They blew a 20 point lead, they did not deserve to win

Backcourt violations require 3 points behind the line, both feet, and the ball.....

I don't recall the play, but if all 3 were behind the line then yes, you are correct.

There is precedence (6 separate cases) that the final 7:50 is replayed. The score should be Rockets up 15 points.

Those refs also need to be suspended and investigated for illicit activities. One of the most most egregiously poor refereed games ever.

None of the Spurs arguments amounts to a direct made basket. Period. This was a black and white, undeniable made basket that simply was not counted because the refs didn't see it. Hypothetical backcourt violations have a butterfly effect, but there is still opportunity there to create a missed shot. In this scenario, the ball ACTUALLY went into the hoop, and it simply was not counted. I don't understand how ANYONE can argue that it isn't a big deal.

The missed backcourt violation was blatant and "black and white" and the lob dunk that resulted 2 seconds after was a direct result of the missed call.

That missed dunk call is not enough to challenge the entire game

replay or not, i just wish refs should also be held accountable for their mistakes..just like players get technical or suspension if they behave badly. some sort of punishment would motivate refs to better themselves with rules and judgement.

The non-called backcourt violation directly led to 2 Rockets points.

And this is the relevant counter-argument to make... not that they "were up by 20 so shouldn't have lost!!" cause that's dumb, if the missed call was the only call in question math is still math. They'd have been up by 20 and NOT lost and only hardcore Rockets fans would remember the "near-collapse" by this time next year.

That said, it's still not apples to apples - no missed calls are. The Harden play in question resulted in an immediate timeout by MDA, an attempt to challenge with a baffling NBA response, and a change in momentum unlike the backcourt missed call, which, frankly, I don't think anyone on the court even knew about.

Again, absolutely, the Rockets shouldn't have let the Spurs take over momentum, but they did, and the play seems to have factored in, imo.

And more to the point... there is precedent. Which begs the question, is there anything grievous enough to imply a "replay" of a stretch. Surely in the Shaq foul out game there was an actual 6th foul and Shaq somewhere in the game that just wasn't called that the refs could have called. Surely if it was in the NBA Finals, the response IN GAME would have been different. Surely if this was in the last 2 minutes the response would have been different - CLEARLY, they would have stopped and reviewed it.

I'm not saying any of this means they should replay the last 8 minutes, or not replay it, or anything. The NBA unfortunately is screwed at this point in time because (1) their refs are idiots, (2) they created dumb replay rules, (3) the Rockets blew it...

2 seconds is not a DIRECT result. Anything could have happened in that 2 seconds which would have resulted in a missed basket. It didn't....but it could have. That's the definition of gray area. A ball physically going into the basket, and simply not being counted even though it literally went through without any violations is objectively 2 points. Period. No gray area. And that's the difference here.....we're not arguing anything other than whether or not it should have counted.

Yes, if we reverse time to the point right after the backcourt violation before the lob dunk, it would be a "could have" scenario. But we are currently in the present and now we can say the missed backcourt violation CERTAINLY led to a 2 pt lob dunk.

But this is the difference between judgement calls, and calls that go against the very fabric of the sport. A missed backcourt violation is a judgement call that can happen within the flow of the game. There are missed charges, missed shooting fouls, missed out of bounds plays, missed backcourt violations, etc that all fall within judgement calls within the flow of the game that can or can't be reviewed and either overturned, or upheld depending on what the situation is. A made basket is none of those things. A made basket is the very foundation of the sport, and is literally the most black and white element of the game. Like I said before, there is literally ZERO gray area where it can be debated whether a ball went into the basket or not. The rules are very simple, and very direct. A made basket equates to points....period.

    Hyperbole.

Just because refs didn't have "everything" to do with the loss doesn't mean they had "nothing" to do with the loss.
