This! They can’t regulate the gather as long as the dribble is still technically alive. Changing the gather rule would eliminate so many other moves it would be ridiculous.

Never seen an athlete that great gets disrespected so much. The guy is probably one of the greatest scorers of our generation, yet het gets so much hate from people around the league and the league it self. It is so blatant that this rule is aiming toward harden.

Thanks. Yeah, thought the rule clarification was missing part of the point of the criticism from last year. It felt like most of the confusion on the travel call was the amount of steps he would take going into his gather and then take his 2.5 steps before the shot. Optically it would look like he's doing a 4 step especially to those who didn't know what the gather was.

That’s why harden created another separation move. The guy is dynamic as they come.

Have they made a Lebrun rule? Lebrun is a tight end with a ball out there.

It’s probably a positive for those still whining!! There used to be a debate because it wasn’t written down, now it is so it will eliminate any confusion.

    I
f the league hates the Warriors, they would have taken a look to all those illegal screens that GSW set to get their guys opened.

Well, Harden doesn't hate the league, biz wise they are co-dependent.

The league wants to see athletes win on athleticism and not step backs and drawing fouls. Always has been.

Meh league, the whole NBA product and their playoffs do not interest me as much as 10 yrs ago.

If the last harden rule is anything to go by, it will only be applied to him.

    1) Draymond Green calling KD from the parking lot.
    2) LeBron's recruitment of AD all last year.

Those aren't WAAAAAAY more explicit examples???????

Bingo. He's going to be watched like a hawk this year, because, yes, of course, it's a Harden rule. It won't be called consistently, but I don't think there are any replay rules that would govern this, so who's going to be able to do anything about it? Furthermore, with an actual rule in place now, James' previous work with that move is easy to delegitimize. "Well, he just got away with it a lot last year, because we didn't have a hard rule. Now, he's just going to get called on what they couldn't call last year." Again, I expect wild inconsistency in the application of this rule. Even if it "legitimizes" the move, if you're always worried about whether it's going to be called or not, you might use it less.

Luckily, I'm sure James is already ahead of them in developing new ways of carving up offenses, so there should be more Harden rules coming in the future years.

I mean...if this isn't direct confirmation of league-wide bias, I don't know what is. The fact that Rich Paul can go unmentioned in a tampering article is just absolutely ABSURD.

Defining the gather seems unnecessary at best. And if James’ timing is right, it’s always been a legal move because it’s really just a euro-step to the side or back instead of at the rim. So they’re 100% absolutely not ever taking that away because basketball would look more like the 1950s in one stroke of the pen. Handles, dribbling, moving with the ball, run away dunks, everything exciting about the game happens because the sensitivity of carry and travel calls have been lowered. Seriously, go watch that shite and tell me that’s the basketball you want to watch...

This isn’t to say he’s never travelled with the step back...the timing has been janky on a few but it’s so lightning fast refs can’t make the call 7 seconds later and let it go.

they do hate the rockets. Never get over the "kevin martin rule" after they took that away from him it was over for his career. As soon as that happened, hey let's let these divas do the kevin martin and not call it a foul anymore.
