I think he is a guy that always will strike out a lot, so that limits his batting average some what.

A lot of his value will be his ability to do some of everything.

I heard someone compare him to Kevin McReynolds in attitude and impact, and thought that was an interest comparison.

That’d be a great outcome for Tucker (27.6 fWAR over 1502 games).

Huh, I don't see him as anything like McReynolds.

I'm honestly not sure who exactly he looks like. What a funky swing, I got nuthin.

So what are the Astros waiting on with Alvarez?

    Tyler White looks lost.

Duarte kind of reminds me of Jonathan Villar.

Justin Ferrell and Colin McKee completed the one-hit shutout for Corpus Christi. Ferrell allowed the one hit, walked two, and struck out two in 1.2 innings, while McKee walked one and struck out five in the final 2.1 innings to get the save.

Shawn Dubin allowed a hit, walked one, and fanned 5 over the final 3.2 innings of Fayetteville's 6-2 win over Salem. Scott Manea (3, 2-run) and Miguelangel Sierra (5, grand slam) homered for the Woodpeckers.

This is a bit of a sentimental share, and relevant to this thread in the second paragraph... the reason why I initiated the luxury tax chatter came from watching Springer slide into home plate for his inside the park home run. I swear, I have never seen any player continue to have so much joy for the game, and I feel that plays a HUGE part in why the Astros are such a lovable team. He is the heart and soul of the team. I have a feeling Richard Justice had that same sentiment: https://www.mlb.com/astros/news/how-george-springer-became-face-of-astros even down to the cover photo. I don't have a favorite player, I just recognize his value to the team.

I feel we need to find a way to accommodate what will probably be a $20-25M salary to maintain that intangible asset the Astros have, and key to doing that will be developing our next generation of stars in-house vs trade (to stay under the tax). It gives this thread extra meaning for me, not to track players for who we can trade, but for who will allow us to keep what makes this team so special.

Thanks for letting me share. God forbid I post something like this in the GARM (need to change my username).

Whatever happened to the 2015 third round pick (#97) - Jake Rogers, C, Tulane?

Was looking at that 2015 draft and we selected Ronnie Dawson in 2nd (#61). Pete Alonso was taken #64, Bo Bichette #66, Garrett Hampson #81 fyi.

How does Dawson project to the majors right now? Player comp?

Rogers was traded to Detroit as part of the package they gave up to get Justin Verlander. He is having a great year and was just promoted to AAA. He is one of the 10 best catching prospects in baseball and projects as a defensively oriented everyday catcher with upside to be a star (if his bat exceeds expectations) at best or a long-careered backup at worst.

Dawson currently projects as a strikeout prone 4th outfielder on a 2nd or 3rd division team. He has transformed himself over the last 18 months from a LF who hit for power and not much else to a legitimate CF who offers power and speed. His ceiling is still very high, as if he can get his swing-and-miss more under control he will project as a 20/20 candidate who can man CF; that’s a borderline star player. But his floor is also low, because if he doesn’t figure out how to reduce his k% he won’t get out of AA.
