It was nice that Barr gave his opinion on charging Trump with Obstruction of Justice, especially since it completely lined up with his audition for AG op-eds. it was not like Trump would have been indicted.

The question of whether Trump broke any laws will be addressed by the House, if needed. The House will be investigating Trump hard for the next two years, which politically will keep Trump's fragrant disregard for the law in the news. I do not think Pelosi will allow an impeachment vote, unless McConnell gets on his knees and begs Pelosi for it. Thus, it is not going to happen. The 2020 election will be the referendum on Trump's Presidency.

    Even then, I don't think it'd be a landslide.

Should 2020 prove to be a boon for Democrats, I expect the red faced blowhards to worry about the deficit again after four years of slumber.

Primary reason would be economic weakness and the question of strengthening the safety net to prevent more people from going under

I don't want a recession to come but it's coming.

As for Trump's re-election, he will burn the country down to get re-elected.

Yeah, it's surprising how willing his followers will be among the first to light the torch.

I have some respect for Mueller not pulling a Ken Starr with gotcha-type questions in an in person interview. Of course people will disagree with him only submitting written questions, but that was in a sense a country first move rather than winning first move that drives people to madness in war and sport.

Now does fate/God/Karma/Chthulu/etc... Let a lying and cheating shitbag like him get away with it?

    That's up in the air...

I don't think he "colluded" or "conspired" with Russia, I just think he's a tool and under Putin's influence. And I do think it's clear now how Ken Starr got Clinton - imagine if Clinton had refused to be interviewed by Starr - there would be no perjury - but they would have impeached Clinton anyway for it.

I'm quite sure there's a lot of unflattering stuff in the Mueller report, which is why it will never see the light of day.

There will likely be a phase two of indictments, but barring something outrageous, he prob won't be impeached this term.

Agreed as he said, nothing exonerates the president even on Conspiracy to defraud the United States with the Russians.

That's quite a difference from Trump and his supporters who go around claiming that he has been exonerated on those charges.

    Trump’s Astonishing Confession

The president said he would accept information from foreign countries if it were to help his presidential campaign.
    JUN 12, 2019

    David Frum
    Staff writer at The Atlantic

    ***

Yoni Appelbaum argued in an important cover story for The Atlantic in favor of opening an impeachment inquiry into the president. I worried some weeks later on this site about the political and institutional risks of proceeding down that path. But Trump himself gets a vote; Trump himself forces the hands even of those who might wish to restrain the hands. He is such an institution-wrecker—his instincts are so lawless—that he may simply refuse to allow Congress not to impeach him.

Confessing a willingness to collaborate with foreign spies against his domestic political opponents is a hand-forcing move. The risks of proceeding are still there. But the risks of not proceeding? Trump just forced us all to confront them in the most aggressively public possible way.

Great article by Asha Rangappa. The entire article is worth reading, but here are a few excerpts:

Trump’s Moscow Deal Is Exactly What the Framers Worried About
Self-dealing and foreign influence were their biggest fears for the presidency.

This case only gets stronger with every passing day.

The "wait till the election" argument gets weaker every day that Trump commits more impeachable acts...... to rig the election.

Every single day he remains in office does damage- much of it irreparable in the short term.

Why? If he's so terrible then beating him in an election should really be easy bro. Seems the best route and would waste less resources. I mean it's not like his approval passed Obama's despite 92% negative media coverage...

Oh damn never mind. Yeah maybe impeaching him is better odds. Best of luck on that.

Yeah it's pretty sick that more people approve of the most corrupt president in our country's history than one of the most moral and sensible presidents. Shows how ignorant our country has become as a whole. Very sad

But then again we have a country where many people think it makes sense to carry around assault rifles and many people who think global warming is a hoax. So I guess it's not that surprising.
