Somewhere back in the Cohen thread i mentioned that impeachment or no, constant accusations will erode the Presidents hold over GOP legislators. As his polling falls and elections are at risk, the posturing away from him will continue.

It's interesting the Republicans that come out of the western desert states. They're conservative, but surprisingly unTrumpian. Utah has Romney and Lee both saying they'll vote down the emergency. Lee is promoting a fix to presidential emergency powers. Utah also spawned McMullin who has actually made criticizing Trump his career now. Arizona had the original anti-Trump Republicans John McCain and Jeff Flake. Now they have pro-Trump McSally but they've also lost the other senate seat to a Democrat. Gardner in Colorado is trying to walk a probably impossible tightrope between being bipartisan and pro-Trump -- he's probably out in 2020 and Colorado would go all-Democrat. And of course, Nevada and New Mexico have already flipped to Democrats. Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho seem like a different place -- stolidly Republican and Trumpian.

Selectively quoted. He said Pelosi was "politically motivated to protect the separation of powers enumerated in the US Constitution." Can't expect him to get behind that. ;)

I haven't been able to follow this as closely as others here, but why in the heck is Congress in the middle of this?

I thought the whole thing was that Trump could just get the money from the DoD, without messing with Congress.....

Correct, then trump announced a "national emergency" with the intent to divert moneys from other sources like the Military. The resolution was to overturn trump's national emergency announcement. The House introduced the resolution, and now the Senate passed it as well.

Well I guess the question then is whether Congress has such power. Probably headed for the judiciary....

You weren't kidding about not following this story. Emergency powers can be cancelled by legislation. Congress passed it. Trump just vetoed-by-tweet. They probably don't have the votes in the Senate to override the veto. So the emergency is still on.
