I got to play in the WSOP $1,500 Monster Stack last weekend and had a fantastic experience. Though I busted with 11 minutes left in day 1 (I would love to have appeared in the EOD1 stack list), I'm not sure I would have played any but three hands differently. One, a hand I just didn't play, was likely a killer for me as it occurred 30 minutes before the end of the day and likely would have tripled me up to a very respectable stack.

Already making plans for next year!

    Lessons learned:

    1. Pony up for a return flight on an airline that will allow me to get on standby on an earlier flight if I bust early.

    2. Don't be a pu$$y, when you have pot odds, call.

    3. Don't ignore the side action. The WSOP brings a LOT of fish into town and they have a lot of money they're willing to spend at cash tables.

Are you Andy Moon? Also, I've always wanted to try my luck in WSOP since I've watched it since I was in middle school (moneymaker and Phil Ivey era). Am I right in assuming that the buy in was $1,500? Also, how much was first place?

I've never finished worse than second place in a poke tournament. True story... I'm like 5-1, with the 1 being a second place finish.

    WSOP is next.

I'm planning to put together a day long poker tournament at some point over the summer. I was able to get 24 at the last one I announced on CF, gonna try to beat that!

Do you still have the black leather vest, purple Miata, and feather jewelry?

I did once have a blue Miata and regularly wore a denim vest when I rode a Harley, but have never, to my knowledge, worn feather jewelry of any kind.

    Great story.

I've never played anything like the WSOP, but I've played and chopped in many tourneys at the MGM, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, and Monte Carlo. MC is a nice little poker room with a surprising amount of regulars who seem to know each other even though none of them seem to live in Las Vegas.

I also played in a lot of rooms in Houston back in the day (early/mid 2000's). I remember seeing Sam Farha in one of the rooms I was in playing at a MUCH larger game than mine. (200/400 I think). A good friend of mine is a dealer and although i've lost touch I'm pretty sure he's still doing it in those Houston rooms. He makes a LOT of money.

I actually considered it $1500 worth of education, but you're welcome to think of it as a waste if you like.

Looks like fun. Played every week when I lived in Houston. Now that I live near Austin I never get to play.

Would love to go out to Vegas and try my hand at one of these tourneys.

My nascent plan is to follow the Monster Stack structure (http://www.wsop.com/2015/structuresheets/14228-structure.pdf), with 20 minute blind levels rather than the hour levels we had in Vegas. I am willing to take any suggestions as the plan is in its infancy so if you have feedback, please let me know.

I was thinking about a $50 buy in, do y'all think that is too low, too high, or just about right?
