Not many players are willing to wait an extra year to cash in, but even if he is willing to do the 1+1 type deal, he is still unlikely to leave his max on the table for this next season and play at a rate that makes it workable for the Rockets.

He can sign a 1 year deal for somewhere around $19 million this offseason if he wants to wait to cash in. The only way the Rockets can get him is if they do a sign and trade that includes Ariza, and I just don't see that happening. Why would Portland even want Ariza?

LMA is, to use your word, a pipedream. :)

maybe its a huge deal because that's a huge negative in his game and has been for the past 4 years. so now it's other players fault that rubio shooting seems so bad. lol stop using outside factors as some excuse for this. There isn't an excuse for how bad he is. It's on rubio, not anything or anyone else.

in terms of this team, you still need a pg that has the ability to be atleast a solid shooter that can knock down open shots. So Rubio's shooting will be a pretty big issue since the pg position will get plenty of open opportunities. not a good fit and never was.

Hes a true max player and there are too many teams with ap to add him next year. He will wait probably. Yes its pipedream. Thats why I mentioned the Spurs. I think thats where hes headed at.

I thought this was an interesting idea for just a few tweaks to strengthen the squad, which is what's probably the most likely. Obviously it's dependent on what guys want money-wise, but I think it's pretty realistic.

    Sign Llull to the MLE
Resign Bev and Josh. (Brewer too if it's reasonable, Terry if vet min)
    Trade with Minnesota:
Houston in - Kevin Martin, Shabazz Muhammad
Minnesota in - Jones, Papa, Dorsey, #32 (or 18?)

I think K-mart was productive enough to not be a contract dump (20 ppg, 39% from three) for Minny, and Shabazz had great progress this year but will always be behind Wiggins as a SF. This gives us two solid wing players especially if we lose KJ and maybe Brewer.

    Llull/Bev/Johnson
    Harden/K-Mart/(Brewer?)
    Ariza/Shabazz
    DMo/Josh Smith
    Dwight/Capela

--> whatever pick we have left over, we just fill in a need or BPA

The Rubio trade does work under the cap. Love would likely have to be a SnT in 2016 free agency, with DMo at the core of it.

I wouldn't trade Jones for Martin straight up. That's just me, though.

Cyber, how is this looking now?
All I hear is Spurs. It makes sense because they can get to the max offer quicker and then max out KL.

Ricky Rubio. Just what we need! Another dude who can't shoot threes but will be expected to shoot a lot in our offense. Shot 25.5% from three last year (an actual regression from his career average)

Since this is the catch all thread now, I thought I'd throw this out there as one option for this offseason:

    - Sign Llull to nearly the full MLE (just short to keep some room to sign our 2nd round pick)

    - Resign Beverley to a 3 year $12 million contract.

    - KJ McDaniels likely walks

    - Trade Papanikolaou/Prigioni/Dorsey for Lance Stephenson and 2 second round picks. Lance has a $9 million salary and a team option for 2016-2017. Either he gets back to who he was last year, or we got 2 2nds and a big expiring contract for the trade deadline.

    - I think Smith returns. The most he will get is the MLE, and I think most will hesitate to give it to him.

    - Resign Terry for the minimum

    - Resign Brewer for 1 year $8 million

    - Rockets draft BPA at #18

    Llull / Beverley / Johnson
    Harden / Stephenson / Terry
    Ariza / Brewer
    DMo / Smith / TJones
    Howard / Capela

Plus the NOP 1st and NYK 2nd

    $22.4 - Howard
    $15.8 - Harden
    $9.0 - Stephenson
    $8.2 - Ariza
    $8.0 - Brewer
    $5.0 - Llull
    $4.0 - Beverley
    $2.5 - Smith
    $2.5 - TJones
    $2.3 - DMo
    $1.5 - Terry
    $1.4 - 1st round pick
    $1.3 - Capela
    $0.8 - Johnson
    $0.6 - 2nd round pick

    Total Cap: $85.3

That leaves us just below the apron, so we wouldn't be able to leverage salaries, but it gives us plenty of actual salary to make big trades and talent to entice other teams with.

Or if the team wants more flexibility, you can let Beverley walk and sign Brewer to a 2 year $5 mill per, with a 2nd year player option.

Stephenson is a very intriguing talent, but he had a major collapse this year and has an attitude that won't quit. If we strike out on other upgrade attempts, I'd gamble on him, but not before.

Interesting. The 18th will have to be added. More likely to trade Dieng than Bazz. They want tyus jones and they could be strongarmed i to this trade.

Btw shabbaz doesnt pass and is bad defender.

Cyber!!! :) too bad because the wolves would be reallyyy interested in jones. They have a hole in pf. Maybe trade jones straight up for 31 and a future second ( they will be bad next year).

Don't know how Morey could do it without giving up Ariza.

Honestly, with Llull looking like a lock all of a sudden and Durant looking at DC or OKC. I throw the kitchen sink and do whatever it took to land Aldridge.

    Thanks for the information.

Kevin Martin HATES Daryl Morey and the Rockets do not exactly feel much better about him.

I will take this means Rubio is a goner. Hes reslly pushing for a trade. Too bad..they are a young team and he would fit there well.
so lets see how they find a pick to take a young pg. Not many teams would trade for Rubio.

Thank you for the info cyber. And if you hear also anything about any schwartz client plz plz let me know. I have a suspicion I know where they will end to.
