More minutes for Ish again tonight.

Canaan 1-7 from the long stripe.

4-10 and 2-6 from three for 11 points and 6 rebounds in 25 minutes. Still enough time to go either way. Right now seems like a typical Pat Bev game.

You know what I've been seeing that is a cause of concern to me when you have an all defensive team PG. When we REALLY need a guy to play defense on a PG in crucial moments, it seems like Ariza is getting the call.

Yep it certainly seems like Beverley is a step behind his guy lately and using his tenacity to try to make up ground. End of the game play like we had with Paul yesterday I definitely feel more comfortable about Ariza or possibly Brewer staying in front of him than I do Beverley right now.

Ariza is a more effective defender than Bev, especially when it comes to late game situations. Just like Ariza would be a more effective defender than a ton of teams starting PGs in late game situations. Doesn't really take away from what Bev brings defensively.

Ariza can keep up with the speedy little guys for a while, but he can't do it the whole game. I think it's just sound strategy to put your best wing defender on a teams most dangerous creators when it comes to those last minutes or last play.

Not trying to derail the thread, just saying that Bev's defense has fallen off a bit.

    Unfortunately

It's coz Ariza is way longer. But you can't necessarily switch for an entire game.

You wouldn't switch a guy like Gary Payton off of him in a crucial late game moment. Bev's defense has taken a step back this year. Fortunately, we have Trevor Ariza now.

there's no comparison bw payton and pb. pretty much an adjustment and a good one at that. you put length on a smaller guard which makes it even tougher. thats what ariza is here for.

The guy can't beat out Ish Smith, for crying out loud, on a team playing meaningless games...and yet people here believe McHale should risk home court advantage on playing this guy, LOL.

Exactly my point. Beverley's defense is overrated which was why this was brought up in the first place.

The Beverley not making open shots is also a worse player than Ish Smith who actually has PG skills.

I hope Canaan will get better and become a successful rotation player in time. It's too bad, he lost confidence after getting injured. His shooting would have been helpful for us.

What exactly are you trying to say here, that the Rockets didn't know what they were doing since we cut Ish and kept Canaan?
