I drank a few beers with him last night at the Paulie’s Bar on Montrose. He told me he's not declaring.

I'm surprised Trevon Stewart didn't leave.

    I'm not.

5'9" safety that hits hard with mediocre (at best) coverage skills.

    He won't be getting drafted.

Don't get self-righteous about other people's accomplishments or post superfluous updates and you'll be fine.

Would be a nice get for us. I heard he is trying to apply for a waiver to play this year too. He would be greatly needed since Ayers, Dunbar, and Beadle will be our 3 starters going into the season and after that we are mad young at the position.

If he's not granted that waiver, he will only be able to play for us for one season since he has already used his redshirt. Seems like a solid addition regardless though.

I found an article suggesting he was almost dismissed from the team, but I couldn't find anything saying why.

[rQUOTEr]New University of Houston football coach Tom Herman’s contract includes a steep buyout if he leaves within the first three years of the deal.

Herman must pay a $2.25 million buyout if leaves for another job before Feb. 28, 2018, according to details obtained Thursday by the Houston Chronicle through a Freedom of Information Act request.

The buyout amount decreases to $1 million on Feb. 28, 2019, and $500,000 on Feb. 29, 2020.

In December, Herman agreed to a five-year contract worth at least $6.75 million and could increase substantially if he reaches certain performance incentives.

The contract includes a $1.35 million annual salary, the highest for a football coach in school history.

Herman can receive an additional $500,000 in deferred compensation if he completes the length of the contract.

If at any time during the contract UH wins a conference championship, Herman will receive $50,000 increases in base salary (currently $475,000) and non-salary compensation (currently $875,000).

Herman’s contract also includes incentives for performance on the field and in the classroom.

    Among the incentives:

A one-time increase of $100,000 in non-salary compensation for the remainder of the contract if UH plays in a New Year’s Six Bowl (Cotton, Fiesta, Orange, Peach, Rose or Sugar).
$10,000 to play in the American Athletic Conference championship game.
$25,000 for winning a non-NCAA Playoff bowl game.
$75,000 for winning a New Year’s Six Bowl.
$100,000 for winning a national championship.
$20,000 for being ranked in the final Associated Press or USA Today coaches polls.
    $20,000 for winning a national coach-of-the-year award.
$10,000 for multi-year team Academic Progress Report score 940 or above.
$10,000 for team GPA above 2.5.

After 24 months of employment, Herman and the university can discuss a mutual two-year extension.

UH will provide a coaching staff budget of $2.645 million for nine full-time assistant coaches, quality control/graduate assistant personnel and director of football operations.

I suspect that if he wins, wins big, gets better recruits and fills the stands...those numbers will be renegotiated steeply upwards. But he's gonna have to win fast.

I'd give him 2 million for winning the championship!
