No, he is an UFA at the end of this year, we are signing him after he clears waivers.

Quick! Call Mark Cuban to see if he would trade Dirk to us and create the roster spot for Josh Smith in the process

Not the favorites necessarily, but I'd give them as good a shot as any team. The only teams that seem to have the Rockets' number lately are the Clippers and Thunder and both are having down years. Anyone else in the West I think we could take in a 7-game series.

My only concern is what this move does to D-Mo's psyche. Frankly, the dude earned that starting spot and I'd hate to see him go into a slump after being relegated to the bench in favor of Smith. Although something tells me D-Mo may still finish a lot of Rockets games in spite of this signing.

Pretty close. On offense, they really need to keep the ball moving and hit guys in their spots.

D-Mo now becomes the #1 option on the 2nd unit and his FGAs should not be affected.

    This great!

DMo should still get 28 minutes a game. he will get 18 minutes at center and another 10 at power forward.

    DMo has earned his minutes.

its just that Howard and Dwight were the only NBA talent on the front court. Black and Dorsey still have a ways to go to get there.

now it is Howard DMo and Smith. all three play solid defense.

    Patrick Beverly/Jason Terry/ Isiaah Canaan
    James Harden/Corey Brewer
    Trevor Ariza/ Kostas Papaniklau
    Josh Smith/ Donatas Motiejunas
    Dwight Howard/ Donatas Motiejunas

That is a very deep team. The bench instead of just relying on perimeter play have a post player to get them easy buckets

also, no way you trade DMo with Smith here on a one year deal. also with Dwight having knee problems earlier this season.

DMo needs to be signed long term.

I hear he is one of the hardest working player in practice.

Jones played only 4 games. D-Mo has stepped up in not only Jones' but also Dwight's absence. It's one thing to ask him to return to the bench if/when T-Jones were to come back from injury. But to lose the starting gig to a guy who just signed here after being cut by his former team has to sting a little.

    Awesome!
Getting J. Smith for absolutely nothing. What's not to like?

Morey can easily trade TJ+Shved+Pelican's pick for Dragic now if he wants to.

Wait till you see Smith pass. He's almost Lebron level.

We might have the best defense in the NBA now.

Good point. And this will nudge Dorsey/Black out of the regular rotation, which is probably a good thing.

I would expect a 9-man rotation looking something like this:

    PG - Beverly (30), Terry (18)
    SG - Harden (35), Brewer (13)
    SF - Ariza (30), Brewer (10), Pap (8)
    PF - Smith (30), D-Mo (10), Pap (8)
    C - Howard (32), D-Mo (16)

    Minutes:

    Harden - 35
    Howard - 32
    Ariza - 30
    Smith - 30
    Beverly - 30
    D-Mo - 26
    Brewer - 23
    Terry - 18
    Pap - 16
