You realize most of the "internet" is located here right? "Shutting" down our internet shuts down everyone's. That's why there is a lot of push from other countries for us to release control of it. You don't have anything to worry about.

Do people still use DDOS attacks on PC game servers? I remember when I used to play Halo PC like a decade or so ago, rival teams would crash the dedicated servers if they ever got their hands on the IP. Doesn't sound like it takes a genius to do it.

Considering NK only has one ISP that connect to the outside world I think most likely this is their own system crashing.

The poll implies that independent hackers could have shut down North Korea's internet. Does one assume they're domestically located, in other Western countries, in other developed countries or was that an invalid scenario?

    1) They probably could have. NK isn't the most advanced of countries when it comes to internet connectivity.
    2) No assumption here. I don't have enough information. It could be our government, or it could be individuals. Seems like a pretty swift response to be individuals, but that's simply my opinion.

All the ****ing time. That's how Xbox Live and PSN have been attacked and/or brought down most recently (in PSN's case anyway, Xbox Live just had certain services not functioning).

I'm pretty sure our government would have people on payroll to do it and not have to outsource it if they requested it.

I imagine if hackers were paid it was Sony that paid them

They likely could. NK's internet is fairly limited - I read somewhere that they have less than 1000 total IP addresses associated with it and likely a fairly limited amount of bandwidth and limited amount of independent connections to the outside world. Hackers could likely overwhelm their whole system relatively easily. That would not be the case for us or our allies.

I think it's just that someone left the phone off the hook so they can't connect to AOL
