    It seems like what really happened here is that a female moved her head and sang a few lines to a song she heard that she liked while WHAT was in the general vicinity. That happens quite a bit.

    The proper etiquette is to not be a total social loser and have to wonder what to do when someone else in the room is moving a little bit.

    Hell, if the music is any good, just dance. If she notices you and starts dancing with you, far out. Who cares? Dance to the music. I've never needed a chick to dance with. Sure, that's my preference, but it doesn't stop me from getting on the dance floor. Depends on the music.
