I've heard of these fabled 7-Elevens but never been to one because there aren't any in Houston (or San Antonio for that matter). I've seen a few on my travels to Florida and Austin but never stopped to one. I heard they USED to be in Houston but did the old pull-out. When did this happen and should they return?

I don't see the big deal about 7-Eleven other than the image of novelty. It's just your average convince store. They are EVERYWHERE in Chicago (I visit there constantly). I noticed nothing different than your average Valero On the Run, or whatever...

Pretty sure they all became diamond shamrock, which most of those became Valeros. 7/11 is alright, but QT is better. I wish Houston had those. They are all over DFW.

QT is awesome if, for no other reason, the drink machine with recipes for different Flavors. Awesome.

Houston had 7-Eleven's until 1990 when all the Houston stores (and only Houston) were sold to a different company that renamed them Stop-N-Go. Then in the late 90's, they were sold again to Diamond Shamrock which a few years later was acquired by Valero. So some of the Valero's in town used to be 7-Eleven's back in the 80s.

7Eleven is probably the best convenient store out there. They changed my life. Met my wife there and everything.

I encourage you to visit one ASAP.

    7-Eleven has Citibank ATM's so I don't pay a fee because there's a 7-Eleven on every corner

I enjoyed being able to roll in and get a Slurpee (not just Cherry or Coke flavored) with Cesar Cedeno on it.

QT's good, but it's no Wawa. And nothing beats a Sheetz. I don't miss alot about the Mid-Atlantic, but I do miss really good convenience stores.

I was bemoaning the loss of great corner stores the other day to a co-worker. Back in the 1990's, I could spend an entire day there with my buddies with food and entertainment for under $10.

Awesome call back there! Along with loosing all local 7/11's in the 90's seeing 2 Pesos taken away and leaving the sub-par by comparison Taco Cabana is when things in H-town started to go south.
