I don't care what his career percentage is. He hadn't even played in the game. Sitting on the bench the entire game and then being asked to make FT's is pretty hard to do. D-Mo made both FT's anyway. I don't even see the reason to complain here. If he did this again in another game assuming both players had actually played, I'd be fine with D-Mo or Garcia. Actually it does. I guess you just haven't seen it happen before, but I definitely have. At the end of the day, D-Mo made both. Give it a rest.
You obviously have never played organized ball. In a pressure situation with the game on the line, it's very tough to come in completely cold and hit FTs. And I know that personally from a game I played in last yr. I made the shot, but I felt very uneasy and got the lucky bounce.
you obviously can't shoot. and you obviously are a clueless kiddie as well. i have previously played organized ball and have probably been playing ball overall 3x as many years as you. Shooting FT's has absolutely nothing to do with being cold or warmed up. A good NBA shooter will make them half asleep.
The interesting thing is, DMo was NOT setting a pick in that play. He was set up on the strong side, I guess as the last resort to get the ball if all the other three guys failed.
the point is even though this particular decision didn't cost us this game, mchale's other late game brainfarts have indeed costs us games throughout the season. his pattern of making these types of inexcusable incomprehendable blunders even befuddles the tnt/espn game announcers.
The real question is why Harden barely got any rest. I understand that Lin wasn't playing well, but that doesn't mean you can't hand him the keys for 5-7 min! The dude has an injured elbow and we are going up against Sac and LAC back-to-back. Cmon man
This is one of the worst threads I've read. He made the free throws, he's actually a pretty good free throw shooter.
I wonder why DMo wasn't the inbounder instead considering he was the worst of all 5 at FT%. He'd also be taller than CP.
Dmo was actually a pretty good FT shooter in the Euro League. I think he just needed more game time in the NBA to become comfortable at the FT line in the NBA. His stroke is true and I think McHale trusted everyone he had on the court to make the FTs. Thus why Dmo was in the game
This isn't a late game blunder though. You didn't prove anything by saying career FT%. Sure McHale has had late game blunders, but this definitely wasn't one of them. It's like you're reacting as if we had an avg/above avg ft shooter on the bench and McHale chose D-Mo over him. That wasn't the case.
DMo should not have been in the game. D12 or DMo, if you insist on having him in the game, or somebody other than Parsons should have been inbounding the ball so Chandler would have been available as one of the guys you could throw it in to. Horrible coaching by McHale.
Just a guess... as a last resort, if you can't get the ball in, you lob it up for your big to try and pull down? Did we have any timeouts left?
garcia is an above average FT shooter, a tested veteran who's been in that situation many times, and is a much better FT shooter than DMo period.
OH damn, so you think you know more than a GM or coach for a team with a 38-18 record in the NBA. You think you could do better? This is the NBA, anything can happen, for you to say it would have been a blowout if we had a different coach is just plain stupid...and borderline ignorant.
