RIP New Braunfels

Been going to NB since I was a small child, a very, very long time ago. The Comal was our number one summer destination. Sad that pollution has grown so bad. Glad they are taking steps to clean it up. It is a very beautiful area. I would never drop a can or trash anywhere, ever. Love the beauty of nature too much. I used to hate finding trash at the top of Colorado mountain trails. Just ruined the experience.

 

Question...

We are visiting for a wedding at the end of March/ first week of April. I might try to take the wife on a day trip to float the Comal. I've never been. She hasn't either. In fact, she's never seen Texas, outside of the general Houston area. She's not necessarily a fan of the commercialization of Houston, which is what we generally see when visiting. I think seeing the hill country, and this area in general (and maybe a bit of Austin) is more up her alley.


Can we float that time of year?

 

You would freeze. Doubt the tube places are open that early...?

 

That's what I'm wondering. How cold is it there that time of year? It's been 10 years since I've lived down there, and I can't remember.

As far as freezing, it's -4 here this morning, so anything warmer than thy is a plus (maybe not for the water though).

 

It will be tolerable. The water is natural spring fed, so it stays the same temp (74ish) year round. I would imagine the average high during a sunny day would be somewhere around 70ish.

Shouldnt be too bad, but might be a tad bit early.

 

The Guadalupe is primarily released from Canyon Lake Dam so the water is much colder than 74 degrees -- think 58-60 degrees -- you would get hypothermia out there in the winter.
