I've been joking about child labor being the next GOP initiative for the last couple of months. Their current rhetoric is missing this step in returning to 1870. So... which moniker is actually Newt? Hightop? I want a consulting fee, dimmit.

    hell yes

There is nothing more important to a child's development than understanding the connection between work and wealth. It needs to be reinforced from a young age that in order for them to get fed, someone had to do work.

Habitual "free" food over a long period is toxic for personal maturity. There is no such thing as a free lunch.

Manual labor builds character. I was mowing lawns at 12.

So a rich privileged child doesn't need the same lesson?

And are you telling me if you didn't mow lawns at 12 you wouldn't be fed the bare minimum to survive?

Commodore, you would be surprised how responsible and hard working many underprivileged children are in America relative to their more privileged counterparts. At least poor kids don't just get probation for running over and murdering 4 people while drunk.

absolutely they do, either by working for their food or seeing their parents working for their food

LMFAO and it's their fault and obligation to do manual labor because their parents won't, can't, or don't?

Oh please push this agenda, Lord have mercy would it help to illustrate just how rediculous your way of thinking is.

Really? That is the single most important thing for a child to know?

In his Randian dystopia, the only thing a child should be able to rely on is their own hands.

This isn't the right way to teach such a lesson. I'd be all for kids spending time cleaning at their schools. It teaches responsibility, but all children have to be involved. Public Education is about providing equal opportunity.

Newt is both an egomaniac and an *******, and it astonishes me that anyone might be figuring that out now, instead of years ago.

Hey, I think libertarian guys like yourself should occasionally go into McDonald's or other low wage work places and look around so you can know things like the dollar menu is still there and the employees actually work very hard during peak meal times. It helps you keep grounded and is an antidote from worshiping abstract "free" market ideology..

Such field trips can build awareness and character, too.
