    As continuing efforts to improve people's safety I present:

    Actually I've heard these tips from other people who camp and hike a lot but have never seen them demonstrated quite so enthusiastically...

    I once heard that you should run down hill if possible, as supposedly their proportions make that difficult for them. Not sure I believe it, but I once heard that.

    Also, I once heard alligators have trouble catching you if you run away in a serpentine pattern. That works for being shot at by criminals south of the border too.

    I was actually thinking about this the other day while in some bear country. I haven't hiked in places where you'd have to be prepared for a bear encounter so I was trying to remember what protocol was. A handgun wouldn't do much although it would make me feel better. Bear spray is popular here so I guess you just have to roll with that.
