I was just wondering, if the hawks can sign two max players this offseason, meaning cp3 and dwight, can they also sign josh smith? I believe he's a restricted agent? Or can he be signed due to his bird rights?
They can if they let Smith walk. Smith isn't a restricted I don't think, and he reportedly wants out. Dwight has repeatedly said he doesn't want to play for Atlanta. Doubt he's going there but who knows, this guy changes his mind everyday. Rockets will have to pitch the idea of Paul and Howard together with Harden and Parsons is the best threat against Miami and that they will have to follow the Heat's structure and take a bigger pay cut than Lebron and Bosh did. Hope it works but it's a long shot.
No. Hawks can't sign anyone until they waive the rights to Smith/Teague. Until then they clog up their cap space with cap holds for double their 2013 season salary. If waived, they no longer have their bird rights which enables them to go over the cap to resign.
