Yes they do, but will personal users still use them in 5 years, what about 10?

IDK, and nobody knows. Desktops definitely aren't as popular as they were. I certainly will never buy another one.

Microsoft was in the market way before either one of those two. Remember the Palm? Yeah, that thing ran off a Microsoft OS. LOL!

    Mega epic necro bump.

I just bought myself a Chromebook for some holiday traveling, and this thing is awesome.

Worth every bit of the very reasonable $249 pricetag.

It is surprisingly capable for what basically amounts to a nicer version of a tablet.

Keyboard is very nicely arranged and spaced (and the amount of characters/shortcuts they managed to fit into it is amazing), the track pad is responsive and has multitouch gestures, and it is light as a feather and boots up in a flash.

My only gripe with it is the screen, as the colors are slightly washed out on it and the viewing angles leave something to be desired. But I really cannot complain all that much for what I paid.

Since everything these days seems to run via browser, this might be the wave of the future for mobile computing.

I want to get my son one of these for Christmas but they are sold out. I won't settle for the Acer because it's clearly inferior.

It's weird. It's a whole other category onto its own.

    PC
    Laptop
    Netbook
    Tablet
    Phone

It falls solidly in the middle, having the portability & ease of use of a tablet (minus the app store type stuff) and also having the interface/inputs and customization of a laptop (minus the beefier hardware).

It's great for web browsing/email (handles the web and flash etc better than my HP touchpad), office file editing, and photo sharing/editing.

The services and applications that google has developed are very apple-like in the way they work and their user friendliness.

I'd recommend it to anyone who is in the market for a tablet or laptop, it might convince you to go with the in-between alternative.
