Les Alexander is pissed. Not looking good for Royce White's future with the Houston Rockets:

"That's tenuous and it's tough to talk about something like that," Alexander said.

"I think we are going to handle it internally, but it's tough. If he doesn't work out, well it's tough to lose a draft choice."

And if that happens?

"I would feel bad for Royce and I would feel very bad for the team," Alexander said.

The Rockets have not said yet how they will penalize White for being away from the team.

"We have internal repercussions which I'm not going to talk about," Alexander said.

Houston Rockets rookie forward Royce White, who was told he is one of three players being sent to the team's affiliate in the NBA Development League, was not at practice today according to acting coach Kelvin Sampson.

"I didn't realize he wasn't here today until we got to practice," Sampson said. "I haven't talked to (Rockets general manager) Daryl (Morey). "He's the guy you should probably ask those questions.

"I'm the coach. I'm not the personnel guy."

Samspon said guard Scott Machado and forward Donatas Motiejunas were informed last night that they were also going to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

"We talked to Scott and D-Mo about it last night actually," Sampson said.

However, Sampson said he did not speak with White last night.

"Royce wasn't at the (Miami Heat) game last night, as far as I know," Sampson said.

White has not been available for comment.

Rockets owner Leslie Alexander expressed concern for White.

"That's tenuous and it's tough to talk about something like that," Alexander said.

"I think we are going to handle it internally, but it's tough. If he doesn't work out, well it's tough to lose a draft choice."

And if that happens?

"I would feel bad for Royce and I would feel very bad for the team," Alexander said.

The Rockets have not said yet how they will penalize White for being away from the team.

I hope the guy is okay, for those of us lucky enough not to deal with these issues, I can't begin to imagine what its like. Maybe D-League will help his not only with game, but with his anxiety disorder.

Royce White, Donatas Motiejunas, and Scott Machado will all head down to the Valley to reinvent themselves and adjust to the pace of the NBA. After hearing the news (and perhaps before) that he would be playing for the Vipers, Royce White decided to miss practice.

The Rockets have announced that rookie forwards Royce White, Donatas Motiejunas and rookie point guard Scott Machado are to be sent down to the D-League today. The Rockets are one of the best teams in the league when it comes to taking advantage of their D-League affiliate. The Rio Grande Valley Vipers run the same offense as the Houston Rockets and focus on developing that aspect of each NBA player's game that the Rockets want to take a closer look at. Spending some time in the D-Leauge has become a right of passage for Houston rookies and many if not most have taken advantage of the opportunity to showcase their skill set and sharpen that one facet of their game that would help them become an NBA tier talent. Aaron Brooks, Chase Budinger, Patrick Patterson, Marcus Morris, and many others spent some serious time grinding away for the Vipers. There have, of course, been prospects like Joey Dorsey and Terrance Williams whose dominance in the D-League never translated into a recurring role on an NBA team; it happens. It's of paramount important for these three rookies to remember that this isn't a punishment or a sign of failure - this is an opportunity and it would be wise to embrace the decision with a can do attitude. Royce White was unavailable to comment on the situation. Why? He wasn't at last night's game and he skipped practice today.

Some time playing in the D-League is really going to do Donatas Motiejunas a world of good. The Lithuanian big man has had no problem scoring at an NBA level but he needs to spend more time banging around in the post before he's ready to contribute to the Rockets. With Motie, the talent is obvious. He has proven to be a versatile player with a unique offensive skill set time and time again. It's asking Motiejunas to contain stronger opponents defensively that has basketball scouts worried. Motiejunas is going to be a starter in this league if he can learn to hold his own in the paint. I think that's precisely what he'll be asked to do for the Vipers.

Scott Machado was reportedly eager to hear the news that he would be sent down to the D-League. Machado, an undrafted rookie who lead the NCAA in assists last season, has a lot to prove in the NBA. During the summer league and preseason, Scott opened some eyes with his ability to make plays and facilitate the offense. The knock on Machado is that he is a below average defender and that he struggles to shoot the ball. The Rockets have a gaping hole at the back up point guard spot with Toney Douglas inconsistently filling that void. I think Scott is eager to show that he can be the answer to Houston's woes.

I'm beginning to worry about Royce White. After last Friday's match up with the Grizzlies it was reported that Royce White was out indefinitely with migraines. The following day he tweeted this:

There is something going on with this whole Royce White situation that the Rockets front office is desperately trying to bury. I think it's tellingly inexplicable that the White transportation situation wasn't resolved until a week into training camp. Houston Chronicle reporter Jonathan Feigen shed some light onto the situation following today's practice:

Sampson confirmed White skipped practice and said doesn't think White was at game last night.Told others D-League decision then.

Marcus Morris is a prime example of how rookies who were very successful at a collegiate level can become unhinged by riding the pine early on in their NBA career. Missing games for "migraines" and then tweeting about a lack of injury seems a little rebellious. Skipping practice without any explanation to the coaching staff seems downright juvenile. Only time will tell what is really going on with Royce White, right now the waters remain murky.

Fox Sport's Mark Berman interviewed Rockets owner Les Alexander on the subject of Royce White. Here's what Les had to say:

"I think we are going to handle it internally, but it's tough. If he doesn't work out, well it's tough to lose a draft choice."

And if that happens?

"I would feel bad for Royce and I would feel very bad for the team," Alexander said.

I think it's astounding that Les would even mention the possibility of losing a draft choice. Les' comments are very telling of just how bad things may have become between Royce White and the Houston Rockets. More details to come, I'm sure.

He is a rookie. Not even a lottery pick.

Makes the team accommodate his traveling preferences in the pre-season.

Continues on with his drama and he has not even played a single NBA game.

Uses twitter to sound off his arrogance.
