The embarassing thing is that he got more than zero claps and chants from the audience.

Just think how many he'd get if he told the audience that Jesus was not an immaculate conception but that Mary -- not a virgin according to LDS -- begat him via ****ing a man of flesh and blood named Adam. I mean, according to the Church for which he pastored and to which he has given tens of millions of dollars.

I wonder who would win the religious vote then. I wonder how non-LDS Christians would feel about voting for someone that believes Mary was not a virgin.

I've got a million of these (magic underwear, anyone?).

I hold no LDS or Muslim or Christian in low esteem. (As Eugene Ionesco said, "The fact that I despise religion does not mean that I don't hold it in the highest esteem.") I think everyone should believe whatever they want and nobody should mess with them for it. That's Freedom of Religion and it's really pretty important to the founding of our nation and even one of the greatest reasons our nation was formed, if not THE most important.

And I do not believe that the religion of a candidate is an appropriate measure of his adequacy to be president. I do not believe it should be a factor in voting and I think it should be pretty much off limits.

But Mitt Romney is actively accusing Obama of being anti-God. In legal terms, he (and only he) opened the door. He knows Obama doesn't want to take God off of coins. That was a lie. Not to mention a sin.

If he's willing to lie about Obama's faith I think it's fair to tell the truth about Romney's. Sorry, Clutch. Sorry other LDS members here. But the beliefs of your religion are, as you know better than anyone, are out of the mainstream with Christians that vote according to religion.

If the average American voter knew what Romney believed, he would plummet in the polls because though I don't believe religion should be a factor, a lot of Americans do.

And if those Americans, a rather large voting bloc, knew the truth about Romney's relationship with God and what he believes, no amount of lying about what Obama believes would help him.

The truth about Romney's beliefs vs. lies about Obama's -- even if every single person believed those lies and everyone were aware of the truth about Romney -- would net Obama better than 400 electoral votes in the final count.

Why Romney thinks this is a good idea, or a net benefit on his behalf, is beyond me. If he keeps lying about Obama, one of these days someone (not Obama but maybe a nameless PAC -- thanks to Citizens United, a Supreme Court decision actively courted and supported by the GOP) is going to tell the truth about Mitt.

This is what the religious right has wrought. Romney's getting the religious vote right now because, although they do not believe he is a real Christian, they believe Obama is a real Muslim. That wants to take the word God off our coins.

In Christianity that is called bearing false witness and it is a sin. I don't know how LDS feels about lying, but I'm pretty sure they frown on it too.

 

The Democrats stupidly handed the GOP a gift wrapped talking point, and no amount of whining will change that fact.

But Romney is still going to lose.

 

Religion is a plague.
