How are there so many people on this board that have bad history with cops?

I'm curious to see if people here think small town cops are better or worse than city cops (corruption, attitude, power high)?

 

They are worse in small towns IMO. I think it's a mix of boredom and feeling like it's their job to keep the place free of all sin.

I've lived in cities all over from as large as Houston to as small as the place I'm living now. There are about 7k people here and it's 99+% white. Even local towns hate us because of our makeup. This place used to be so "safe" that it had an honor system fruit and veg stand that left the cashbox open so you could make change. But serious profiling going on if you have out of state plates, worker trucks, cars costing below 2k (beater cars), non-whites, under 30, tattoos, different or long hair, rims, driving past 2am, etc. Probably easier to say what cars/drivers don't get profiled...over 30 white driving a nice car in broad daylight.

For some strange reason, 1 car will pull you over but they always wait for backup to arrive - sometimes as many as 2 additional cars will show up before they even step out of the car. Then the shakedown begins. They start with false statements that can't be proved like crossed the yellow line, ran a stop sign, following too close, etc. Then if the pullover of the profiled car yields them a profile person the lies continue with - appears disoriented, smells of mar1juana, suspicious movement, etc. That leads to searching. If that leads to nothing, you're free to go. If that leads to something, you are written up for the initial ticket (to support their claim), car towed and hauled in.

If you feel that my suggestion that replacing the large police forces with a system of cameras that would be cheaper and remove the subjectivity of justice as an "expansion" of the institution then I understand why you see it that way. I feel it is a less invasive methodology, and encourages a healthier route to public conscience, and thus a is a reduction of said institutions' powers.

 

I would say they are worse in small cities (generally of course, it depends on the municipality) because:

1. Not as much real crime to worry about, nothing better to do.
2. Many cities depend on writing tickets and making arrests for revenue more than large urban areas.

This is just my reasoned guess.
