A silly little comparison based on the premise that cooperstown is the most difficult club to get into and the fact that the nba seems to be the easiest path to a major championship.

I am guessing that this came from the Robert Horry interview.

It is funny because at one point he mentioned that he would trade careers with Karl Malone.
And at the end he said that he would never trade 7 championships for a HOF career.

Personally, I think HOF is a superior accomplishment for a player as it is the greatest individual accomplishment for a player.

Chris Jent has an NBA championship.

    Pete Rose isn't in Cooperstown.

    Had to google Cooperstown.

Don't know how it compares to baseball, but in the NBA, ever year players who don't really deserve it wins a title. Bench players, practice squads... Morrison comes to mind.

    Comparing apples and spaghetti?

Obviously the HOF career is more significant to the individual. Pete Chilcutt has a NBA championship ring for pete's sake. But I don't see how the NBA is an easier path to a championship than any other sport.

Better question is, if you had Karl Malone's career: Would you rather have won a championship or be elected to the HOF? This will be especially interesting in 15 years if Lebron never ends up winning a ring.

Bad analogy. Pete Rose isn't outside of the HOF for lack of accomplishment, he's outside of it because of off-the-field transgressions. He's on the permanently ineligible list. :p

I actually think the Pro Football HoF is probably tougher than Cooperstown to get into (unless you take PEDs, then it's probably easier).

But if you assume that the nba title is for a CITY rather than an individual player. Take Houston for example: which do you believe will they produce next: (exclude biggio and bags from the conversation) will they develop a hall of fame player or an nba title fisrt?

maybe the answer is still nba title, but it puts it in a better perspective.

    why do you think that?

3 guys a year and you have to be on 75 percent of all ballots in MLB. recently we've had a lot of years in MLB where only one guy makes it.

considering we have 2 rings and no Hall of Famers, I'd bet on another ring first if you're telling me to exclude biggio and bagwell from the conversation.

You're asking some very weird questions amigo but I'll humor you. Houston will produce another HOFer (in any sport) before they win another NBA championship. Change that to will Houston have another HOFer in any sport before a champion in any sport and the answer becomes murkier.

AJ80 has a much better chance of the HOF than the current Rockets core has of winning a championship.

Couple reasons. First, there are only 44 voters for Canton, and you need 80% of the vote to get it. So nine 'no' votes means you're not getting in. Also, as much as people say that football games are won in the trenches, it's pretty difficult to get in if you're not a skill position player.

And finally, because Cooperstown has let in guys like Sutter, Dawson, Rizzuto, Cepeda, Perez, Pee Wee Reese, and yes, Jim Rice.

The Rice induction is particularly galling to me. He was a terrible defensive outfielder and provided negative value on the basepaths (63% SB success rate, #1 and #2 for most GIDPs in a single season), and he had Helton-esque home/road splits, all while playing a non-premium defensive position. So if you're a negative defensive player who plays LF, where teams typically get a lot of offense, isn't that worse than being a DH?

Further, he only had four, maybe five really good years offensively, and he was basically finished after his age 33 season (and out of baseball after age 36) without reaching any major statistical milestones. He arguably didn't even deserve the one MVP he did win. And yet despite all that, somehow he became a better player between 1995 and 2009 without doing anything.

I think for the elite players a championship is more important. I imagine Malone Stockton Ewing Barkley Baylor etc would much rather have a ring than go to the HOF.

you cant compare HOF status to titles. (of any sport)

Is like asking what's the greater accomplishment: winning a world series or getting into Springfield (where the NBA HOF is).

or winning a world series or getting into Canton?
