Look.......i am the biggest rockets fan there is but sometimes I ask myself is it truly worth it to spend so much time watching, reading, essentially dedicated a good 2-4 hours a day on a team ? While it provides me entertainment i could do so much more productive stuff with my time. Keep in mind the time I spend on my other teams in sports it ends up being even more hours especially during the times both teams are playing at the same time. In any case I wonder if any of you have thought about this conundrum ?

For most people, it just happens as you get older.

Yes, but I cannot help myself. I think Chomsky has it right on sports.

Keeps me sane. All work no play makes Donny a dull boy.

Besides, if you're going to watch something, at least sports doesn't make you stupider. Unlike most reality TV. (Yes, I consider sports to be reality tv)

Just like everything else in life, it's all about moderation. The right amount and it is entertainment and a good stress reliever and a way to connect with your friends, family, etc. Too much and it can be counter productive.

You don't sound like the biggest Rockets fan there is.

When I think of the time I spend on sports, I always think about this scene...

No. Sports is an essential part of our culture and is tool for upholding our ideals and also for transmitting our values. It also serves as a proxy for the tribal war and as humans we are inherently tribal.

Like all things though moderation is important but watching sports, discussing sports and playing sports isn't a waste of time.

I consider watching a game the same as watching a fictional movie--it's for entertainment.

Went to a Rockets game with my sons last night. Had a blast hanging out with them...rooting together for our team. Good night out together. No, there's nothing about that which was a waste of time.

Sports have been around as long as civilizations, so I would say no. Always been a great source of entertainment. Now other TV like Jersey Shore, Yes. Clutchfans is a huge waste of time but I can't help myself, it's way too awesome.

I've told that analogy to women a few times, how reality tv = sports. Cuz its both watching people compete against each other for something.

Most DON'T buy that comparison....which means trying to make sense to women is a BIGGER waste of time
    :p
