Screw that. Zippy the Chimp should have no confidence of Astros fans. If we are going to get rid of a Hunter Pence type player just wait until next year. Sell off Wandy and Bourn but keep the prize for Mr. X.

I was told that the Phillies offered Domonic Brown straight up for Pence? I don't have any sources or links, just what I was told. Can anyone confirm?

Ten years in at the Astrodome the Astros were averaging 10,593 fans per game.

doh! those were different times economically and population-wise, though. and, the Astros were pretty lousy through that entire 10-year span.

Absolutely. It's not apples to oranges.

But 10 years in they went from averaging well over 25K/game (1965) to 10,593. Clearly the luster wore off a helluva lot quicker than it has at MMP. We're in our worse season in franchise history, and there's zero novelty of the franchise now. Just long-suffering fans hoping to see the team breakthrough so we can die in peace.

ESPN had it in a column of trades that make a lot of sense. I've never seen it reported as actually being considered by either side, let alone a formal offer.

Edit: That was actually for Brown and Cosart, which would be impressive.

Around that time, however, you could sit up in the yellow section for just a couple of bucks and the pavillion for $1.00.

Yep. The orange light would come on during even minutes. If a home run was hit by the Astros with the light on, free beer. They became known as 'foamers'.

I can't believe you guys are talking about something that happened 40 years ago, and actually remembering it.

My memory gets better as I get older. I also remember sitting through 22 innings of the 24 inning game. I wanted to stay, but my parents decided it was time to go. Shoot, I remember games at Colt Stadium and being at the Oilers-Texans AFL championship game. (Sorry for the contradiction in terms with "Texans" and "Championship").

I'd take that deal in a heartbeat. Win-win for both squads... Brown's a phenomenal talent. He and George Springer could form one of the league's most potent outfield combos down the road.

bobrek's got a few on me, I'll have to admit. But I do have fond, vivid memories of the late 70s and the 80s. Like Vern Ruhle's pock-marked face. If that dude were pitching today, we'd all be calling him a roider. (may he RIP)

I didn't even realize he played for us. I remember him as the pitching coach.

No, some ESPN blog just said it would make sense for both teams.
