Hey guys, I'm just wondering if anyone has gone this route in their studies or knows someone who has? I'm asking for my girlfriend. She is interested in law but not interested in being a lawyer. She has expressed real interest in just being a paralegal. She is currently going to school and majoring in criminal justice. Is she better off getting a 4 year degree or getting the certificate by taking weekend courses for a couple of months? Or possibly both? I would appreciate and help. Thanks.

There aren't a ton of paralegal positions in criminal law. It's mostly a civil thing, and there are so many underemployed lawyers out there right now that I can't see it as a very promising time to become a paralegal. Otherwise, I'd think all paralegal programs are basically the same, curriculum-wise.

I was briefly a paralegal at a small firm in Austin. I have 2 bachelor degrees and I got canned for someone with a certificate from that Sally Struthers school they used to show on late night tv. I was so pissed.
