J. Perez followed Pentecost's excellent effort with one of his own 4 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 8K for Fayetteville
Welcome back to the worst camera in minor league baseball (Fayetteville). Javier Perez is another one of the Mexican arms in the system with solid command and fringe stuff.
The Astros signed OF Parker Chavers today and sent him to Sugar Land. Chavers was the Cubs' 7th-round pick out of Coastal Carolina in 2021 and they had been his only organization up until his release last week. He had shown some five-tool tendencies as an amateur but other than a 2023 season in which he hit 11 homers, he hasn't shown much pop (home run or gap) or contact. Chavers is described as a solid defender and a plus runner who can handle all three OF spots.
How long until we get the extra year of control? As soon as that’s done, bring him up and start piggybacking Javier with Blubaugh.
Kind of weird to me that Houston has opened up with a 4 man rotation in AAA (Ulllola, Gordon, Arrighetti, Alexander). France and Lambert have thrown multiple innings in relief. But I’m really surprised they’re not keeping a full stable of guys fully stretched out. Hopefully it means they expect Pecko back in very short order.
Yeah thats a real bummer about Forcucci. Considering hes already injured again and he didnt even pitch in a game.
You need 172 days to get a year of service time. Theres 187 days in a typical season- so basically 15 or 16 days (probably). my guess is he starts back in houston against Colorado in the 2nd game of the next homestand.
I think it might have to do with starting the season on Friday and then having Monday off. Also trying to align whoever they want Houston's sixth to be with the AAA schedule.
Cruz’s body looks really strong to me, 105 is a great sign from him. Would be great if he could progress and add some depth to AA at 2B/3B.
Lambert is listed as the SP tonight and Pecko is starting for Fayetteville so at least one of those guys will make for 5 SP.
Kevin Alvarez is 3-4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases for Fayetteville, and Xavier Neyens just hit a two-run double to give the Woodpeckers the lead. Jesus Carrera was great as the first man out of the Fayetteville bullpen as he allowed just one walk and struck out four in four innings. He's yet another Mexican pitcher in the system with great command and subpar stuff.
Nolan DeVos was solid but he had to take the loss for Asheville after allowing a go-ahead RBI single, which was the only hit he allowed in three innings. He walked three and struck out six.
