Who had "Ukraine rescues the US with its War with Iran" on their bingo card?

    Axios:

U.S. dismissed Ukraine deal for anti-Iran drone tech last year

Why it matters: Snubbing Ukraine's offer ranks as one of the biggest tactical miscalculations by the administration since the bombing of Iran began Feb. 28, two U.S. officials tell Axios.

    • Iran's inexpensive Shahed drones have been linked to the deaths of seven U.S. service members, and have cost the U.S. and its friends in the region millions of dollars to intercept.
    • "If there's a tactical error or a mistake we made leading up to this [war in Iran], this was it," a U.S. official acknowledged.

    Trump only hires the best!!!

The truly sad part is that Trump is too dumb to realize that any mistakes were made and will not course correct.

I don't think he's too dumb to realize the mistakes, but since he never takes responsibility at all, he's simply going to throw them under the bus.

Who knew that not using experts in high-stakes negotiation could be deadly? Who freaking knew.

    These idiots.

“I wouldn’t tell you I’m an expert in nuclear, but I’ve learned quite a bit, and I’ve studied it and have read quite a bit about it, and I’m competent to sit at the table and discuss it, and Jared [Kushner] is as well,” Witkoff said on “The Mark Levin Show.”

Ivanka probably has dirt on daddy that would stop him from ever throwing her hubby under the bus. After all. that hush money has made them richer and richer and richer since his first term.

I understand that. The Iranians REGARDLESS are likely headed towards a civil war with the Kurds vs IRGC and IRCG/Houthis/Hezbollah vs Israel.

Trump/Bibi set off a powderkeg that will keep exploding for years and years.

I'm just saying if I was advising Trump (I'm not... fck him), I would tell him his best way to survive the mid-terms would be to try and turn the new cycle in the US back to culture wars and other stupid BS Trump thrives in. Pull the US out, and let Israel fight the war on their own with the US backing them behind closed doors.

I think he'll try to do that for sure.... BUT as you noted it just might be too much of a cluster F for him to avoid being involved, and the Lindsay Graham's and Little Marco's in his ear will likely be able to keep convincing him "One more mission" after another. Right now it seems like he's being convinced to launch a special op using Delta force to actually go into the destroyed nuclear sites and take the uranium.... which is kind of insane that they are talking about that pretty out in the open.

This next mission if it goes as bad as it's quite possible it can go could be a nightmare for Trump, but it it pans out miraculously like the Venezuelan raid did, Trump is probably thinking he could tout that as sort of another big "win" for him. Something Michael Bay could make an action movie about or something. That's what's going on in his head for sure no doubt.

We'll see... but yeah... please don't say I "don't get it".... come on man.... you've been here long enough for that....

fwiw: Chris Murphy is a US Senator (and lawyer). So, I’m assuming he’s sharing what he’s allowed to share, as he said in the post. I’m glad he did.

Ignoring all my personal preferences and biases and how I feel about this situation,

Wouldn’t it have been good for US to stay back and provide material support to Israel( similar to Ukraine or a bit more than that if current admin felt strongly).
That would have left options on table for phase 2 or phase 3 or beyond in terms of escalation or diplomacy

What is the point of getting directly involved in war at step 1? What’s the exit?

There only two explanations. Trump got bad advise that gave him confidence that it would be easy and the Iranian people would just seize control. The other explanation is he’s following Putin’s orders and screwing up America as fast as badly as he can.

Add in Hegseth and you have the 3 amigos so bloodthirsty and excited for the kills it's nauseating. They love it!

Also, Trump wants that peace prize so bad he will twist all the killings, bombings, and destruction he does into a fantasy story of him being the man who won, and brought peace to the Middle East.

Anything short of direct involvement would not an adequate distraction provide.

Why not - that is what he did in Venezuela.

There was no regime change in Venezuela - the same VP took over, the right-hand woman for Maduro took over -- same economic policies, same dictatorship, same oppression.

Now we have killed the long-time ruler of Iran, that was very old and dying anyway -- and he has been replaced by his most conservative and hard line son.

The Ukraine war is still going on and shows no signs of ending.

We just walked the Mexican government to El Mencho and killed him, and the violence in Mexico is already getting worse.

We have alienated large parts of European allies.

Meloni turns against Trump and Israel’s war in Iran

Italy’s right-wing prime minister rebukes growing trend of interventions “outside the scope of international law.”

Airstrikes on Iran have proved deeply unpopular in Italy, where public opinion is overwhelmingly hostile toward the prospect of being drawn into another Middle East conflict.

In her remarks, she condemned the bombing of a girls’ school that killed 168 people as a "massacre," and requested responsibility be ascertained swiftly. Multiple media outlets have reported the school was probably hit by a U.S. strike on a neighboring Iranian naval base.

Meloni now joins EU leaders including Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, French President Emmanuel Macron and Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten in criticizing — with varying degrees of vigorousness — the strikes against Iran.

USA doesn't get to decide when the war ends by themselves

Difference being Venezuelan VP had no leverage over Trump hence why she's his b****. Iranians control oil prices and global inflation hence they're demanding more concessions that Trump can't give or else he'd be humiliated. This will get ugly

Iranians aren't heading into a Civil War. The hardliners have firm control of the government. The kurds aren't going to do anything. The regime probably has more support than ever before in recent history thanks to Trump

It is so cute when children pretend to have grownup opinions.

I see no reason for Iran at this point to stop lobbing missiles and drones at Israel, US ME military bases/assets and other US ME "allies". Bibi and Trump by extension are not going to stop (unless to reload) war-ing with Iran, until there is a pro-Israel government is charge ... so like never.
