Maybe on Mays? I have known a lot of marginal NFL guys over the years, and because of the short careers and lack of security, it literally comes down to money 99% of the time. So my guess is the Lions offered the most money or close to it. I am not even saying Mays is the answer, I am not confident that he is a cornerstone going forward. Who knows? What I do know is that the "improvement" cited by some in the OL down the stretch was really overstated, and the Patriots were dominating the OL of the Texans. The current group the Texans have is short on talent and performance - I don't know that it is rationale to think you will go far bringing them back, especially if you sincerely believe in Stroud bouncing back. I don't know - there is part of me that believe that Ryans believes he can get the defense so good that the other side doesn't matter if they protect the football. I don't agree - I saw that with Lovie Smith in Chicago, you need both sides.
you don’t leave the crumbs for the o-line. You prioritize it in your spending. Or u better be good at drafting and developing o-linemen every year…which we are not.
I don't have the cap numbers in front of me, but they had more cap space than 20 teams. Other teams without a lot of cap space seem to be able to find a way to get it done when it is that big a priority. Outside of playing high school football and watching football and listening to some friends that have coached in college and the NFL, I won't pretend that I am some great oracle on football talent evaluation. There are many people that know more than me. I can only say what my observations are and how I bet (I am good at sports gambling) and it seems to me that the Texans are setting themselves up to be exposed in the playoffs again short of a mini miracle, unless they are going to add a player that makes them substantively better than what they have.
"I want to spend my entire career in Tampa. I want to be that guy for the franchise, I want the fans and people to think of ME when they think of the Bucs. This is the place for me." "They are offering me how much?" "I am so happy to be a Niner and to join their tradition of greats like Jerry Rice, Taylor and that guy that was an awesome receiver that also played for the Eagles but everyone hates irrationally. What's his name? Owens I think."
I hope the remainder of the cap goes… RE-SIGN BARNETT, SETTLE, KIRK, BERRIOS, AUTRY (if he comes under 3-4 mil) SIGN TELLER, B. we're going to sit on the sidelines and then pick the runt of the litter in the bargain bin..............come on Nick, its early but there are no Centers left, pick up a LG already!
Nick tries to be the smartest guy in the room, tries to get "value" and buy low sell high. The problem is the league knows o line is important so they are willing to shell out top money and overpay. That's why Nicks splash moves are all involving WR or RB. Because the league doesn't value that position as much.
