I'll say this... Clint looks like he's played himself into shape and is a solid backup now. He might be a shell of the player he used to be, but still has enough in the tank to do what's required in this expanded role.
Alpy is high volume but ineffective in both attack and defence. I am not sure he is much of a benchmark for anything positive this season
Capela has a positive or 0 plus-minus in his last 10 games. No negatives. He is the only Rocket with zero negatives in their last 10 games played, even including garbage time Capela right now is the safest bet to play
I hated him early in the season and now I think he’s been playing very well. I’m glad I was wrong about Clint.
I mentioned plus-minus, but I certainly dont consider it a most legit stat. Because Capela's shooting average has sucked much worse the same period. Meaning it can just be coincidental. Just that all the other players have variances into negative, when Capela doesn't. And it confirms that DFS is consistently negative sink every game he is in. So I didn't say Capela is "good" or even playing great. Just Capela is "currently safe" not much risk to play. (It can coincide with what looks like Capela playing more determined after the Dickerson burner account callouts) I also think, despite appearances & bad metrics, that Holiday and Davison should play more
That'd mainly be simply cuz Capela is more dependably healthy, and Adams on a bigger contract isn't. I just don't get how Capela got so non-conditioned. Even considering his age and injuries, he looks more "washed" at times than he should be
It's not that Clint looks good it's that Sengun doesn't fit with the current roster as well and it's obvious when CC is in there.
I wasn't just talking about you. Every thread now seemingly has people posting +/- stats to prove something. It is not a worthless metric. But it also has a lot of noise so much so that it can't really be used by itself to give you reliable indicator. For example, Capela's positive value in this metric probably has something to do with the limited minutes he plays and the opposing players he plays against. That said, I totally agree that Capela needs to play more. I am mystified why Ime does not play him more minutes. Same about Okogie.
Give me prime CC over Sengun all day. Prime CC is an elite defender and not someone people fool themselves into thinking they need to build around. As opposed to Sengun who his supporters require EVERYTHING to be perfect for him to play well, and if one thing is not perfect, then its not his fault he plays bad yet they think we need to build around someone as soft as him.
Lil CC let it slap with the bass I used to save hoes with a mask and a cape Now I'm like, "Nah, love, I'm good, go away" Ain't about to die with no money, I done gave it
Clint being a shell of the player he used to be is the only reason why we were able to sign him for so cheap. While Clint's been effective in his role he doesn't seem capable of more than that. He's played only 13.1mpg since Adam's season ending injury and still looked gassed at times, so it would be a hard ask to play him more. It's weird seeing a 31 year old Capela look more washed than a 41 year old Dikembe.
I'd say limited minutes helps, and opposing players help. That said, I think the Rockets have a lot of good players, Sengun has been providing a lot of negative value on defense, and he's played a lot with Reed when Reed was hot. With +/-, I think a big question is whether the stat reflects causation or just correlation with minutes. For Capela, I think he isn't causing a big negative value; he is riding the positive values of his teammates and is put less often in situations that are exploitable. Sengun, his offense has been struggling, and the Rockets just are not as good at hiding him this year as they were last year. The Rockets need Sengun to play better.
The plus-minus using is probably an unfortunate sign of desperation. Last resort from fans. Like mine was lol Its knowing the starting lineup doesn't work, pieces don't fit, and just trying to find anything that works. Ime might underuse the bench some, for the style of play he demands. This isn't the 80's & 90's where 8 men rotations play Bad Boy Pistons style. Sometimes some fresh energy Okogie legs does more than skills & lineup fit, and keeps everyone else less fatigued (Which is even wilder with Ime, that he was on Popovich staff that literally popularized load management teams. To the title).
