Right. That was a diss at Ime actually for having something of a double standard allowing FVV bad shooting for slightly above average "intangibles". That Ime just might even hold back playing a Reed 50/40/90 if Reed is "missing defensive assignments", even if that offense more than compensates for defense I think Reed has potential of a 50/40/90 on a Steve Nash lower selective volume. Trying for top 10 scoring like Curry & Kyrie might thin out his percentages some. But Reed still has years ahead of possible strong physical development, even different scheme that's better fit for his ability.
sick and tired of this whole "confidence" bullshiet. even if he's not knocking down his 3s, just being on the floor cause the defense to not able to cheat and pack the paint. ain't no way the defense going to let reed shoot a wide open 3 even if he's 1 for 10 from threes. you think teams let curry shoot an open 3 if curry is 0 for 20 from 3s for the night? hell no
his shot contesting ability is so effective since probably shane battier days and battier's vs reed's contesting abilities are completely different. opponents don't expect reed to jump so high to a point where he almost would block their shots. this alone throws their mind and follow through way off.
Glad someone clipped this. Tried to make this point a few times, but even though it looks really bad sometimes, results are results. Reed being on the court isnt just free buckets every trip down for the other team like some would have you believe.
Do the same thing for the GSW game. His defense has improved overall, but is still more consistently mediocre to bad than good. He should be playing monster minutes the rest of the year if he can handle it, to help him learn to focus on both sides of the floor and build synergy with the starters after FVV gets hurt next year. As a bonus, our offense will be better with Sheppard and Amen on the floor together as much as possible. It’s 20 games until the playoffs and Ime is still experimenting and playing games with his players minds.
He's actually running the offense instead of deferring to KD or Sengun .... both beyond the damn 3 point line. I don't see how FVV wins the starting gig next season.
4 better options than what he chose to do. Pass to Reed Pass to KD Shoot it. Pass to Alpi even if he's blanketed. ..... somewhere on another page Pass to Amen?
Wins? This HC simply hands him his starting job back. He doesn’t have to “win” or “compete” for anything.
I'm trying to balance offense and defense to get us off to quicker starts. Both Bari and Tari need touches to get in their games and won't get many with KD and Sengun initiating a lot if the O. Plus, I haven't been impressed lately with either man's defense on starters lately. Maybe that changes with 2nd unit. Okogie is pure hustle and helps cover holes. He can also hit open 3s, which the other team tends to give him. Along with Amen, they can take on other team's top scorers. Sengun needs to step up on the big men. He was better last year. I'm tired of slow, stagnant, and turnover prone starts. We need to shake it up.
FVV might not win it, but he will be given it. The whole PG argument is so lame. Amen and Reed are sharing a lot of the initiator role when they are in the game together, but Durant and Sengun are still dominating the role most of the time, especially in the 4th quarter. Ime is getting to where he is running more plays for Reed than he used to in the first 3 quarters, but that will only last as long as Reed is knocking down his 3’s. No plays are run for Amen when he initiates. Ime has alluded to it. He wants Amen to try and get into the lane and either score or pass out. If it’s not available he is to quickly pass the ball out and look for opportunities to set screens or cut. When he does go to the corner he is positioning himself for offensive rebounds and has been extremely proficient at it. Guys like you that don’t think Amen is an offensive force in the half court are bonkers. His efficiency is through the roof over the last month or so. Go look at his stat lines since the beginning of Feb. Amen and Reed are playing off of each other. Go back and watch the GSW game and notice how many of Sheppard’s 3 pt barrage was off of Amen’s ventures into the lane. A decent coach would start to use Amen and Reed in two man actions and spot up Durant, Jabari, and Tari on the perimeter. Using multiple initiators was Ime’s stated plan coming into the season before FVV got hurt. I think he would have continued with that plan if Reed could’ve justified his place on the court sooner, but when Amen struggled the early part of the season, Ime went back to his comfort zone of handing the ball to his vets and letting them set the offensive tone. Ironically, Durant and Sengun have turned into turnover machines, whereas, Reed and Amen have the no.1 and no.2 assist to turnover ratios on the team. The sad part is that we are 20 games from the playoffs and Ime is still experimenting and playing mind games with his players.
Ime has never run a meritocracy, he gives out minutes and roles based on gut instinct, not actual performance or who earns it. If FVV was willing to play on one leg, Ime would try to give him 40 minutes a night and never play Reed. It's just how it goes when you have a complete moron for a head coach. Dusty Baker all over again.
Reed playing more than 30 mpg in recent games is already averaging around 20 points. If he consistently getting this level of minutes, he should easily be a 20+ point scorer plus more than 5 assists.
People so obsessed with who starts. I don’t care about who starts. But, I do care about minutes. Reed is playing like he deserves big minutes. I would love to have a healthy FVV right now so we could have two point guards. I’m not worried about what happens next year. I just want both healthy and contributing. Reed is the future and hopefully Fred can come back and help. Contrary to what some believe, Fred is not a third string scrub. He and Reed can make for a good PG rotation. We could even play Reed and Fred at the same time occasionally.
GS was not his best defensive game and a lot had to do with wizard Kerr knowing exactly what to do. his defense has been improving as a whole outside that game
Exactly. It's so obvious that no one has wanted to say the quiet part out loud. Reed has been slow walked by Ime because his rise is the end of FVV. FVV cannot be on this team next season. Reed makes him obsolete. Ime's pace and overrebounding system cannot win a chip. We maxed it out last season because of massive injuries in the West. This team needs more shooters and needs to run a REAL offense that is more resilient than you get an iso and you get an iso.
