Hadn't seen the drone footage for that particular image, but there's also Iranians saying the girls wouldn't have been buried together at the school site (they would have separate, family sites) and this is footage they've seen previously. We've had actual news sites say it was an Iranian malfunctioning drone then retract the statement (drone strikes aren't this big that I've seen). Now is a Snopes fact check during an active war more legit? Even with a margin of error, 5 miles from a naval base is an error you just don't see with modern tracking tech. Was the IRGC launching missiles from the area as Hamas would do?

There are many other instances of proven AI tampering for online outrage which of course, those "monitoring the situation" peddle into warfare for whatever side they're on.

Essentially, the Iranians have turned off all the internet there so they can selectively filter what leaks because they fight via emotional warfare.

Has there been collateral?

Absolutely -- and with Israel implicitly denying responsibility the US has to launch an investigation into the claim. Both sides need to resist the outrage misinformation loop so we can get to the bottom of actual issues quicker. Otherwise nobody believes anything.

You opened by claiming the image was from a 2022 Islamist attack, with zero source. Snopes verified the photograph using satellite imagery and open source intelligence analysts, and the NYT independently confirmed the same location.

In a thread where you're demanding sourcing standards from others, you lead with an unsourced social media claim. Until you provide actual source with evidence or acknowledge you got this one wrong, the rest is just noise not worth engaging.

I read a story indicating that he has become a major focus of hate from the hardline types inside Iran over this speech. The people and politicians that favor the IRGC are tearing him apart for being weak, and sapping the will of the army, and a whole bunch of other perfidy type claims from the hardliners.

I get the impression that he may be forced out of his job or at least marginalized and sidelined because of what he said.
