What is in it for America? It is a perfect excuse to sow conflict to cancel or greatly "control" the midterm elections.
It is also a wonderful distraction from Epstein and several of the economic indicators that have come out in the recent week that show some serious problems in the economy.

Psychologically it also lets some of those that are losers and have very little to be proud of - to feel like they aren't the small man, that they are better than another group of people, and a scape goat to blame all of the failures on.

I don't think that the USA is "losing the war", I know some people that are actively involved and they have expressed zero panic when it comes to the operations in Iran.

I do think that there is a very good chance that the USA does lose long term from an economic and geopolitical standpoint.

This war was not necessary, isn't popular and "winning" comes with very little benefits.

    Current tactics vs long-term strategy.

I would not expect anyone in the military to exhibit "panic" (which is an interesting concept as there are very few examples of actual group panic out there) even though they may feel it at an individual level. Making decisions under stress is what they train for.

In other news, the White House Press Secretary said this today:

"The overall mission in this operation is to ensure that Iran can never again possess a nuclear weapon."

Of course, Iran has never had a nuclear weapon, the administration cannot define the war rationale, and Hegseth keeps talking about crystal clear objectives without ever stating what those objectives are. As long as aerial targets are identified, perhaps having no clear objectives or rationale matters less, but if we put troops on the ground, then thousands and thousands of large and small decisions must be made throughout the day. You cannot check in with the Pentagon on every one of them. You must trust your folks in the field to make good decisions and a big way you do that is to have strong, well-thought out objectives that they can hang decisions on. Otherwise, decisions are made based on previous experiences and individual biases determining what the objectives should be. That makes it difficult to unite for a collective action and can too easily lead to some very bad outcomes. It is also a huge problem when two or more organizations have competing or inconsistent views of the incident and I don't think anyone would say the US and Israel are consistent on what they envision as the end result.

“If we can stand up to him, all Europe may be free and the life of the world may move forward into broad, sunlit uplands. But if we fail, then the whole world, including the United States, including all that we have known and cared for, will sink into the abyss of a new Dark Age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted science. Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves that, if the British Empire and its Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still say, ‘This was their finest hour.’”

    - Winston Churchill

“Qatar is right in the middle of everything. More so than any other country. You walk across a line and you’re there. Other countries are there, but they’re an hour or an hour and a half away, big difference. They’re literally, you walk over from Iran to Qatar. You can walk it in one second. You go ‘boom boom’ and now you’re in Qatar, that’s tough territory.”

    -Donald Trump

Agree on long term versus short term and the reason for the campaign is questionable.

As for panic - probably not the best word choice, but I haven’t heard any concerns expressed. Their concern however is limited to operations and nothing beyond that.

    Great.

Gavin Kliger, one of the 20-something DOGE boys who was instrumental in wrecking USAID, CFPB, FTC, and tried to get individual tax data from the IRS is now the Pentagon's Chief Data Officer in charge of, among many things, AI use in DOD. He's also a big time follower and amplifier of Tate and Fuentes.

    What could go wrong?

Also, keep in mind that they do not view losses, destruction, casualties, and fatalities like most people. It's a necessity of the job and they are trained to do it.

They should know that's BS. He will do what they did to those who fought in Afghanistan. Deport them later.
    LOL

That sounds like something a middle school boy would say to his mom when she asked him what he learned in school today.
