Rates fantastically on both ends in the paint; the amount of hate he's gotten recently is absurd.

I think Will Byers would tell you.

    Sorcerers > Magicians

"Sorcerer in the paint, sucks on the perimeter" felt too harsh

"Steven the Sorcerer" was accurate until his injury :\

    Overall Shot Quality: F.

Yep. He's taking some AWFUL ****ing shots lately. If he would just fix that by itself it would make him a much better player.

Not a fan of him taking bad shots but "this is not our year" afterall. So he might as well go on and try out new things. He can go back to the paint when he have a real PG again.

Who knew the coach playing him to his weakness instead of his strength would make him look worse.

This is the forum where there are still clowns who claim Jalen is a good player. So I can see why there are so many who fail to comprehend the first point.

These graphics are really hard to read.

Also I see something where it says his "mid range shot making" is 28th percentile - this is problematic because over 50% of his shots come from 3-16 feet!

This data is impossible to understand without comparisons.

I've seen Durant and Sengun's shot quality being an F. Is it that way for all high volume shot takers? Or is this a Rockets problem?

Anybody who takes a bunch of contested or semi-contested shots more than 5 feet out and inside the 3P line is going to grade poorly. Those tend to be the worst shots in basketball. What makes KD special is that he's still efficient on those shots, so they're actually not bad shots for him specifically. Not so much for Sengun, he takes a lot of those shots away from the rim and doesn't score efficiently on them.

I do agree with the OP that Sengun is good at getting to the rim and good at making difficult shots when he gets there. He's also an excellent passer for a big man. So his overall value on offense is still high, albeit not "#1 option" caliber. If he wants to reach the next level he is going to have to improve. I think ideally he would become something like a 35% three point shooter and convert a couple of those midrange "flamingo" shots into threes, while also improving his efficiency a bit on the rest of his shots away from the rim.

Nothing like having a great low post player that can make great choices, yet we continue to place him at the 3 point line to initiate when he doesn't have a 3 point shot yet. Awful offense coaching.

You're being way too critical and showing you have no patience. Dude is clearly trying his hardest.

He'll be at 1st percentile before you know it!

Is Alpi really a Magician in the paint? I mean he clearly is a sly offensive player - has great one on one skills in the post and is an excellent passer(when he wants to) BUT the issue is:
    - he increasingly wants to score instead of pass
    - he is increasingly taking worse shots over several defenders trying to force a score
    - his shooting percentage is relatively low compared to league average for the location of shots he takes
    - great one on one skills, but he rarely gets one on one attention

I can't see the original screenshots because work computer VPN is blocking it but while his post moves are incredible and a true lost art in the modern NBA - all the data I have seen suggests he doesnt finish in the paint at a high level. That's problematic because he doesn't otherwise net you 3pt plays often so it puts a limit on the number of points you can get out of the average Alpi possession - especially if he is thinking his job is to score over trying to find open shooters around him....and also highlights that Amen and Alpi structurally puts the team at a disadvantage offensively since neither is a threat to score outside of the paint....and defensively is a whole other can of worms that hasn't looked pretty this year from Alpi.

His shot selection needs improvement but he's A/A+ in way more categories than I expected
