I think our difference is that I see situational fitness more important than you. Most coaches have a base system in their coaching philosophy. That system requires certain kinds of players to succeed. MDA needs a great playmaking attacking PG. Adelman needs smart read and react players. etc. There just aren't a lot of Pop and Spo in the world who can adapt to any kind of personnel. That's why many coaches have success with a team only to be fired a few years later. It doesn't mean they are bad coaches. The team just no longer fits their base system.

The alignment you talk about is real. The disconnect between FO and coach is often about what kind of team they want to have or can have. If the FO doesn't build a team that fits the coach's strengths, then the result will go south sooner or later. And since the GM is the boss, the coach is the one to go.

Of course it is when you are missing key players and lets see how the season ends. If we get to the conference finals then it would most definitely be a success.

No doubt.... I think the Rockets would love a MDA, Pop, Spo, etc..... but I would say our coach and FO are still mostly aligned. There is no national media calling for Ime to be fired, but they did rightfully question the offensive woes.

I think not trading for a PG during the mid season deadline would be an example of the FO telling the coach that they need to play the current roster (Reed). However, the team is still on the same page. I think a lot of posters just didn't properly recalibrate their expectations once FVV went down.

Well I hate to sound like a broken record, but again I think I disagree with some of the claims/premises here.

I don't think MDA needs a great playmaking attacking PG, and I don't think he's described his vision as ever requiring something like that. In fact, while in Houston, I don't think the play style matched his ideal system/vision at all. He's basically said as much. He hated the aesthetics of iso ball, and he would have preferred more movement. But he realized that new defensive schemes (with switching) combined with Harden's elite isolation scoring meant it would be much better to go with that kind of system. I think if you swapped out Harden with prime Kevin Durant (or similar), you'd probably have a very similar system...and I don't think we'd be calling Kevin Durant a great playmaking attacking PG. MDA just realized the offense needed to start with James breaking down defenses, so at that point why bother with a PG that would just end up giving the ball to James regardless. I think MDA is a good example of a coach who adapts and changes his system based on the way the game is being played and what the players on the roster are good at.

I'm not as well versed in Adelman's history (I remember his days coaching the Rockets and felt positive about him, but I haven't followed him closely...not as much as MDA). But to your claim...again maybe semantics...but I think ALL coaches will need smart read and react players in order to have a highly effective offense. I don't think you can just run pre-determined sets all game (no matter how complex), and players need to be able to quickly adjust to whatever the defense is doing. Even in what appears to be a basic isolation style offense. IMO this is the biggest thing holding back the Rockets right now on offense (well...along side the fact they have 2 pieces who can't score outside 8 feet or so...and honestly aren't even THAT effective within 8 feet). Ime has KD who is probably good enough to be that primary scorer in an efficient half court offense, but the rest of the lineup is just not doing so well when it comes to processing what the defense is doing and what they should be doing.

Again, I think our difference is in how important situation is for a coach. We can agree to disagree.

We have KD who is much better than anyone we got rid of......or was injured, FVV is fine - but Reed is a better player than him already - just needs to be played more.

3rd place is settling, my expectations were not to be behind anyone other than OKC, and that isn't happening...we are at best 3rd.

Only a casual would want Ime gone

Look at the roster last season and he managed a 2nd seed

Currently working with no legit point guard and still at 3rd.

The fact we have a top 6 record in the league with a soft center who is supposedly our "2nd" best player speaks volumes on Imes coaching

Only a casual would want IME to stay as they don't understand ball in any depth.

Team needs another creator. All these set shooters are too easy to guard.

I’m not ready to see Ime go, necessarily, but watching the Warriors’ offensive sets vs ours made me want to cry.

Today was the day for me. Immediately going down 10 to the Warriors starting two orthopedic back pillows and a literal AC tech coming off the bench....and who has to come in to save the day? The kid you seem to love trashing at the podium every opportunity.

These guys deserve better than this.

Best thing that can happen to this team this season is for them to go on a massive losing streak and lose in the play-in, and hope that those failures will bring an end to Ime's tenure.

There is no way in hell an Ime led team will win anything of significance.
