Entertaing Olympics, i liked, but in the end, nothing memorable. Will be mostly forgotten with no stars or stories that will survive the test of time.
Did you miss this one? Her story blew me away! Frederica Brignone 35 years old won double gold after her horrific injury 10 months ago. She was the oldest alpine skier in history to win a gold medal, and not only won the Super G, but then took gold in the giant slalom too. She said that the leg injury she suffered 10 months ago was worse than reported, and that she would have needed “more than two years” to recover. She sustained multiple displaced fractures in her left leg following a horrific crash and returned to gentle skiing only in November. “I had a really bad accident and I definitely came very close to not being able to be an athlete anymore - and maybe even to not being able to walk properly again,” the 35-year-old said via videoconference during a sponsor event on Saturday (14 February) in Cortina d'Ampezzo. “It wasn’t just the tibia, fibula, and a multi-fragment tibial plateau fracture … but there was also a complete knee dislocation, both ligaments were involved, the menisci, everything. So it’s truly one of those injuries that normally takes more than two years to recover from.” Can you imagine that? To me, it's the perfect example of what I would call the strength of a champion.
I don't know how somebody could say this after the US won gold in men's and women's hockey alongside our first women's figure skating gold in 24 years.
