Unfortunately sports team owners discovered a decade ago that charging high margin for "premium ' experiences and turning your arena into a business class lounge has a better ROI than creating a good atmosphere for fans of the team and they will continue to abuse this and free ride off the real fans , unless we do something about it
I think you have to pick Amen or Sengun. But you can't have both. This summer would be a great time to make that decision (sell high).
But how do you do it? Quit going? Most of the money is made from TV. Not only that, if we had an empty arena every night, Tito could convince the league to re-locate us to Las Vegas.
definitely not Reed lol. I think all of this is unnecessary and an overreaction except for number 4. What baggage are you talking about? I don’t understand this talk about the coaching staff. As I said before it’s not a coaching issue, it’s a personnel issue in terms of how the team is built. Let’s figure out the Sengun Amen mess and get championship players in here!
i don’t think you can have Amen either without a scoring point or combo. That’s why the KD trade was and is so stupid. If you’re trading Green and Brooks then get a star guard. Should have gone for Book or Bane in my opinion. But here we are. In my opinion you get rid of all 3 (Sheppard, Sengun, Amen) unless you get a star or very good combo guard or 2 guard type then keep Amen and move him to SF.
Anyone who mentions trading everyone and tanking: tanking in the NBA is over after this season. We caught one of the last boats out of Saigon. The commissioner's office is committed to eliminating any incentive to lose games from the NBA. So, IMO what Rockets fans should hope for is that the next draft system is advantageous for us — I.e., gives teams like us multiple chances to draft a high level talent while still staying somewhat good. The “wheel”, flat lottery odds for all teams who don’t win a playoff series, rookie free agency, something crazy like that. Because we’ll be stuck in the “somewhat good but not a contender” zone for a long while.
What kind of picks do you expect to get for these failed role players? Maybe you guys haven't been following, but tanking is being "outlawed" by the league after teams like Utah made it blatant a few weeks ago. Even as it is, there are very few lotteries where tanking almost guarantees you a "win". If there were such a draft, this coming draft absolutely loaded with talent would have been the one. But even in this draft, you'd have to be a bottom-2 or 3 team to have an almost guaranteed shot at an elite player in this draft. Those flat odds make it damn-near impossible to guarantee you'll get a Dybantsa, Peterson, or Boozer. Now we have to see how the NBA is going to stop/penalize teams for tanking, and as a result see how the value of players, pick values, and trades evolve based upon that.
I was searching for available NBA executives and found this... Which NBA teams have the best front offices? Here’s how 36 executives voted - The Athletic https://share.google/FDe0lU8TMTru5Glah We could elevate Eli Witus or hire someone from OKC, BOS or MIA. As for coaches HCs--Mike Malone and Taylor Jenkins are available, along with assistants like Sam Cassell would all seem to be better alternatives. As for players, the new administration can determine who stays and who goes. We're not in bad shape talent wise, I think an offensive minded coach can tap into our potential.
Mike Malone who literally lost his locker room? Taylor Jenkins who underachieved in Memphis? Are we just getting any coach these days? And it shows how lowly you think of Udoka. No coaches will come in here and win a championship with this roster. None.
I know you guys love trashing the roster but we're still really young. Im not sure why you would be expecting chip right now unles you know absolutely nothing about basketball. All we need to do is get rid of KD get a young point guard and a coach that actually knows how to run offense and defense and make assessments based on that. We're still one of the best young teams in the NBA we just ruined it with KD. Because with KD comes expectations we were never gonna meet this year even with Fred. Our guys are too young.
nope. 2 starters with 10 ft max range. One clogs all lanes standing at FT line and elbows. The other has no moves except going north south or a Euro.
No upgrage to this team will bring us any championship. There is no way we can compete against spurs, pistons, thunder in the next 4 years. Better reset now then loose a few more years
Right but we were 2nd in the WC last year and 4th this year and thats because we added old guys and lost our point guard. The issue isnt our young guys though they may be annoying they are actually really good at winning together. You need to find more pieces that fit together and give players time to grow. As frustrating as Jabari is he is still only 22. Senguns fg% is frustrating but they closely match Jokers at the same age and his numbers are better that a lot of guy who went on to be superstars at the same age. Amen doesnt have a shot now but again he's young. Giving up now would be stupid you just need to go young save for one or two guys and continue the rebuild.
You obviously "know" incorrectly. He stated we we had a bunch of failed role players we should trade for picks, so I asked him what he expected in return for said failed role players. I never called them failed role players. I don't trash our roster - just make fun of the overuse of the term "franchise player" at every position.
Sometimes you want to come to the board and complain about something small like the mix of shots we take in the offense, but when you come in you find people talking about the Rockets in the same way they would if we had only won 10 games so far and the entire roster was over 30 years old. Even if this season is a complete fiasco, we have the picks and assets to maneuver in any direction we want. Even if they ban tanking. Even if Udoka's an idiot. I promise you it can't be that all our players, all our picks, all our coaches, all our front office and the owner all suck. There has to be something good to be on a 50-win pace because 23 teams are trying to be on a 50-win pace and just can't achieve it. We must be doing something better than them.
I wonder if it entered into our front office’s calculations that the nba could change the draft process and pushing picks out further into the future, which was the impetus for trading Brooklyn’s picks back in favor of those later Suns picks, carries risk? I suspect many front offices didn’t account for that risk. But the reality is that all future draft pick values are in question. I have a hard time believing bad teams won’t continue to have some sort of advantage to pick high in the draft, but that advantage right now is already so limited. They may kick the can and do half measures like axing pick protections or they may create a rule that says no team can get two top picks within x amount of yrs or something like that. Our Dallas pick could be f#cked. We just don’t know. Teams that have been hoarding picks but don’t yet have their stars could be in rough shape. Could see a lot of teams trying to cash in their chips this summer before they lose value. All this uncertainty makes it really hard to chart a strategic course for team building. Right now if you’ve got good prospects, warts and all, you are probably better off being patient and prioritizing development as opposed to churning through them for future picks. I’ve got to remember that the next time I watch Bari brick multiple shots in a row. And draft pick uncertainty is probably gonna make picks in the 2026 class (which we have none of in the 1st round) that much more valuable. Sitting on two 2027 pick assets is feeling more and more like a full sh#t diaper.
