If they are in jail because they were convicted and doing time, sure I would. If they are in jail awaiting an indictment or a trial, nope. There are probably some issues that need to be negotiated between Feds and States, like who pays for the administrative burdens and what are the parameters of how transfers go. I think a lot of the 'lack of cooperation' that blue states allegedly show results from the MAGA attitude that cooperation means subordination. They want the states to do a bunch of the Feds' work without making any concessions on their own part of how that the federal government wields its power. To some extent, it is an ideological resistance to Federal policy. But, at the end of the day, the States have powers reserved to them, they have their own elections and political will and they should treat their cooperation with the federal government on immigration matters as leverage to maximize the benefit of their own people. If Trump was a governor, that's what he would be doing.

Didn't you see how hot she is? :D

I see "allegedly" a lot. As in, not convicted of any crime. As in presumed innocent until proven guilty.

To the bold - That's what got us where we currently are believe it or not, counties wouldn't hold illegal aliens because ICE wasn't reimbursing them for holding them - the price tag was quite large (this was int he late 80's early 90's) and from that point, local authorities just began turning a blind eye.

As for the law, there's this thing called the Supremacy Clause, basically it says that Federal Law trumps State and Local laws, that's the law of the land.

If this stuff goes to the SCOTUS, I think it's safe to wager that these sanctuary cities lose.

Our government is beholden to it's citizens, not a bunch of illegal immigrants - no matter why they came here, if they have commmitted a crime or not - Beholden to the citizens of the USA. Illegals voting or being counted for representative purposes is just not in the citizens best interest - just the politicians.

Rank State % Without a Passport (Approx.) Political Lean (2024 Election)
    1 Mississippi ~79% Republican
    2 West Virginia ~78% Republican
    3 Alabama ~70% Republican
    4 Arkansas ~69% Republican
    5 Kentucky ~67% Republican
    6 Louisiana ~66% Republican
    7 Oklahoma ~66% Republican
    8 South Carolina ~65% Republican
    9 Tennessee ~64% Republican
    10 Indiana ~63% Republican

Political Lean: All ten of the states with the lowest passport ownership are "Red" states that voted for the Republican candidate in the 2024 Presidential election

Economic Factors: Data shows a strong correlation ($0.81$) between median income and passport ownership.

Poor, non traveled, uncultured people vote for billionaire who doesn't give 2 ***** about them...

Nobody on these boards or in mainstream politics is in favor of protecting murderers and rapists. I'm sure you know that but feel like you are making a point perhaps?

Am I okay protecting rapists? Bruh Trump literally pardoned hundreds of convicted felons who ended up molesting kids and committing more serious crimes after

    Stop embarrassing yourself

It's also telling @Space Ghost said nothing when Trump pardoned thousands of felons who have committed crimes afterwards
