is everyone suddenly some random bot posting on cf? how can anyone even remotely say that they'd be willing to entertain a trade of reed, tari, and a first rd pick for coby white!?!?! of all people... the guy is worse than reed currently both on offense and defense and white is the all-in move?? wtf...
C click bait alert. I don’t believe Ime is at all interested in Coby White. This is the old “we tried but just couldn’t get the right deal” shtick this front office does every deadline.
White is probably one of the Offense first and Defense second players as skilled as he is. GMs know he struggles with calf strains recently and a while back.
Btw I was told that actually we can re-sign him. His bird rights carry over. For DFS and a top 20 protected FRP I'd do it.
I would too, unless we could get Ayo or Monk for something similar. Monk’s not a great defensive player, but better than Coby. I don’t think Ayo is on the block in reality. Ime is not going to sign off on Coby in my opinion.
would offer a protected 1st only if we had a plan to sign him long term. He’s just starting to hit his best yrs. I’d prefer Ayo but sounds like he’s less available. If Coby is a 1yr rental u don’t offer a 1st.
Keep in mind that since he's been there the starting rim protector has been Vucevic and the starting wing defender has been no one notable. You're very exposed as a defender there. I think he's a better defender than people think. This is one thing Ime is good for. He improved Jalen and Sengun defensively, I think he might make Coby passable here.
I’d absolutely offer DFS and a protected FRP for White. I get the contract is a concern - I still take that swing.
Agreed, I think they would make the trade if Ime approves. I prefer Monk, because he is shooting over 40% from 3 this year and is more signable in my opinion than White.
Monk is good too. I think he would feast on the type of looks Jabari/Okogie have been getting. He'd have to practice some better shot selection here.
CHI - HOU CHI In: Adams + DFS + Tate (let me cook) + 2026 SRP (CHI's original SRP) + future SRP Bulls prolly lose Coby anyway. They can flip DFS or keep him into the future. The flip Tate for a protected SRP. Adams should be ready next year and is 2027 backup C insurance. HOU In: White + Jalen Smith Gets Htown a traditional ball handler with size (giggity) + a backup big man who can consistently stretch the floor / spread the defense. Tate is included and gets the Rox under the tax threshold.
haha! I had protected PHX FRP (top 8 protected) or 2028 HOU FRP (top 5 protected) originally... should have stuck with the gut @Hemingway
I think our own 2028 pick shouldn't be too great so l could consider that one. The picks we own from other teams could be gold. DFS and/or Tate + 2028 1st and/or 2026 second - final offer.
CW turned down a large extension. Paying him 30/ish mm with all the other salaries, and Amen’s coming? Straight up for DFS and perhaps a summer S&T? Mebbe.
White will sign for what his market value in the offseason would be. There are only a few teams with enough capspace to even offer $20mil, much less $30mil. And the prominent salary cap teams don't even need PGs. If White plays well enough the rest of the season and in the playoffs to warrant one of these teams to offer $30mil+, then either he's worth re-signing over some of the other Rockets young players, or he's returned so much value that the Rockets will happily take what he provided in the rental. This is what I don't get about people afraid that he'll get a big contract in the offseason. I WANT HIM to be worth a big contract in the offseason. If he sucks and ends up re-signing with the Rockets for like $10mil make-good contract, that's the worst case scenario I fear much more.
