I would love to see Pepiot with our pitching guys working with him

He may only last 15-20 starts, but would likely be as good as anyone during that time

 

McTaggert just said on the radio that if the Astros can’t trade Jake by today’s deadline he is a non tender candidate

I know he is well tied in to the Astros, but my God I’d like to think they wouldn’t really do that

 

That would be so dumb. Just keep him then.

 

I thought the Astros had fielded “multiple calls” from teams that were interested…

I was ready to say I wasn't on board when I thought he was earning 2.5 mil this season but at 4.5 mil i can see why.
I hope we can extract at least a minor leaguer out of him.

 

If 1 WAR is worth $8-10M
and
Meyers is making $4-5M

He may be the safest player on this roster to actually be at least neutral value.

I want to see a higher ceiling guy in CF but that doesn't mean Jake doesn't have value.

 

That would be shocking and very stupid. Non-tendering one of the top 10 defensive OF in the league coming off of a 2.3 fwar season set to make $3.5M? Makes no sense.

There's zero chance the Astros can't get "anything" from Jake Meyers. At his absolute worst, is still a spectacular CF platoon option.

I can understand Brown wanting to clear CF for one of his upside K machines to hopefully take over full time, but I sure as hell don't like not having a safety net when we already have question marks at multiple positions when Meyers is still so affordable.

 

Yeah, he had a reverse of his normal year. Normally he sucks and then gets better. I do think the injury hurt him there though.

I wouldn’t mind Houston taking a chance on Jonah Heim for $3M. And if they can’t find anyone better, Mike Tauchmann might make a good 4th OF for $2M as insurance against Cole or Smith not panning out (assuming Houston trades Meyers).

 

Jake can go get it, but he’s not as good going back towards the wall as he is at closing the gaps.

Not sure what a split contract might be but I expected a minor league deal with Trammell for the 26 season.
