This piece is kind of all over the place. I agree that people think post-2020 Democrats are weak on crime because they were. Even San Francisco revolted against that movement by ousting their DA and electing Lurie as mayor. But, will the national media give any credit to the latter if his policies work? Or will he simply be tarred as a "San Francisco liberal" regardless of what he does? Furthermore, it's obvious why videos of rampant shoplifting go viral. Will boring videos of people calmly shopping at a CVS in downtown San Francisco garner views? Probably not, so the perception will be a lot harder to change.

If Lurie can get things to a state where stores can remove protective plastic barriers from their shelves he might be able to tout that achievement. I just don't know that anyone will care.
