If Jalen has an open 3, he needs to take it, every minute he’s on the floor for his whole career.

The same is true of every player in the league who is a shooter for their team. Pass up an open 3, come sit by the coach on the bench.

Jalen had 12 of them last night, according to NBA.com tracking. He made 3. He was correct to take every one.

If we didn’t want him taking open 3’s, he wouldn’t be on the court.

 

One takeaway: you wanna win, put McVeigh in.

 

Re-watched it and yeah. Game got away when Fred and Jalen decided to take 9 3s and make exactly one of them. Also Amen didn't re-appear in the game until 2 minutes left in the 3rd.

Compare that to Lamelo who chipped us down with two after two after two.

 

2nd half, Charles Lee had his squad sagging from the perimeter packing the paint. Multiple defenders sagged, wasn't just Amen's defender. Hornets was daring us to shoot 3's. It's like: 'prove it first then we'll play you tight'.

This is the same defensive strat we against some of our opponents.


At the end of the day, Rockets have to hit them.

I think Reed got benched due to some mistakes/turnovers in the first half, but I'd have put him back on the floor just to help bust them out of their defensive adjustment. They have to honor his shooting and likely wouldn't just make him prove it like they felt comfortable doing with Jalen and Fred.

 

Nobody is respecting Sheppard’s shooting. He has to actually take a few shots and make them to get respected. He is a rookie doing rookie things. There were many better ways to try and break their adjustments than hoping a rookie who has not been shooting with confidence to be a catalyst.

 

Ime specifically mentioned they were "playing him close." They are respecting it, but I will acknowledge that he hasn't hit anything yet.

 

Can a game thread reach past 100 pages again.

 

Imagine if we had a 6'10 power forward to run an off-ball screen to get him open.

Sheppard couldn't get a shot off because he was literally being stuck to like glue on the perimeter when he was trying to get in position for a 3.
