After 84 games: 2022 - 55-29 2023 - 46-38 (9 games back) 2024 - 43-41 (3 games back) If the Astros can avoid further astronomical injury ---- McCullers and Garcia never return, plus more multiple injuries --- the remainder of the season, we all know how this will end.
Still early, but he's pitching great. He's gotta prove he can throw 150+ innings effectively. Astros are in dire need for starters to eat innings and take pressure off the current staff. Pretty much the entire rotation shares the same IP situation as Hunter, and that includes Verlander. JV's days of 150 innings are over unless he DNPs the entire previous season. I believe his missing '20 and '21 is what catapulted his awesome '22 -- he didn't have all the *recent* stress on his arm. Framber is the only proven horse -- and he's unstable. It's a shame Bloss, Javier (a likely victim of his strenuous '23), and Urquidy, and Garcia, and McCullers, and France, and did I miss anyone are all shelfed. We've been so blessed with Blanco, but he's another guy who hasn't proven 150+ and likely needs load management. Astros need a new starter, even if only a 4.00 ERA innings-eater.
He was a pretty highly touted prospect and the stuff has always been there. It’s not that crazy really.
Always thought this. Been pounding this on my podcast since April last year. Lost a little faith in April this year.
But he was flailing since 2nd half of last season. Before this run, he had 1 quality start in his last 17 starts. It was bad.
