You all are vastly underrating the potential that is unlocked with this fact.

1. Increases his potential for misspellings on Clutchfans by at least 50%. "Sheppard" with 2 Ps is already at Redick/Reddick levels of confusion; I'd argue it's already surpassed Pat Beverley/Beverly Hills. Reed/Reid has at least a smidgen of potential but honestly I am pretty low on this developing outside of a meme-y "Maury"-like intentional misspelling. But Isaiah is arguably the MOST misspelled name in NBA history, especially because the greatest holder of that name had an alternative spelling. I think the only other one even in contention would be Dwyane.

2. Automatic induction into the Reggie Cleveland All-Stars, one of the greatest ideas from Bill Simmons back when he was throwing 100mph as a writer.

3. Unbelievable nickname potential. "Tax Man" for a guy who literally looks like a government accountant is too perfect. The calls on the court will be fantastic:

• On a steal: "There goes the Tax Man, picking pockets again"
• On a closeout block: "That return just got denied!"
• On a follow-up dunk: "Reed Sheppard just gave everyone in Houston an early Refund!"
• Contested three: "The Taxman will have his due"
• Wide open three off a kickout: "There are three things certain in life, Death, an Amen Thompson blowby, and a Taxman 3-pointer".

 

I think more people would be on the Reed Shepherd train if DDakota wasn't the engineer.
