    Lakers can't start Russell and Reaves. They're both similar and unathletic. Reaves off the bench settles him in to the Ginobili role, too.

    Lakers also know they ain't good enough to contend so this gives them a chance to showcase Russell. Rumor has it that they'll eventually trade him for DeRozan.
