He needs 1.200 OPS to get regular ABs

He needs 2.000 OPS over 6 months to displace Abreu's contract at 1B.

So if he becomes Lou Gehrig the rest of this year and first half of next year, there is a chance maybe at the all star break.

Your probably right so WTF are we bringing him up, much less, why did we sign him in the first place?

Singleton has power and is left handed, a huge hole in this lineup. I don't expect him to amount to much, but in theory his player profile addresses a clear issue and he's basically free. All upside, minimal downside, even if he never plays getting Julks off the roster is a net positive.

If Abreu doesn't pull out of his recent funk and finishes the year as he began, he is not guaranteed regular playoff AB's, no matter how much he makes. Diaz will also catch some games. Having a lefthanded DH/1B option would be great.

If Johnathan Singleton is close to Ryan Howard as a Hitter, Johnathan must stay in the Lineup.

Is your definition of serviceable that he has a pulse and can walk onto the field? Abreu is not playable at this point.

I want Singleton to DH once per week and play 1B once per week both games vs RHSP.

Then I want him to PH for Maldy, Pena, Meyers, Dubon, Kessinger or Dubon in the late innings of all others vs a RHP if outcome of the game is in question.

    He’s been worth about -1 WAR and has a 77 OPS+ from a premium offensive position. I don’t know if that’s serviceable.

I’m not expecting much from Singleton given his history, but there’s no reason to not give him some playing time and see what happens. Even if Abreu is going to play through it and turn things around, a few games off in August won’t matter.

Guarantee you the Astros don't bench Abreu and will continue to play him the majority of the time this year.

Yup, unfortunately it would be a pie to the face of Crane if Abreu is benched and that's not happening.

    2 outs, RISP .397 avg, 6 HRs, 36 RBIs.
    Innings 7-9, .270, 20 RBIs.
With Alvarez out, kept this team going by knocking in runs

He's struggling again (like the first 2 months) but he has been very serviceable.

Regardless of how fans view him, he will be the starting 1Bman for the majority of the games this year.

It may not work out, but big walk in his first PA back.

Odds are there are at least 2 guys in the lineup that should be pinch hit for before Meyers. Pinch hitting for Meyers with Singleton will lead to Dubon pinch hitting for Maldy.

    This is painful to read.

    Nago...nogonaaa...nogonnahappen.

If there's still a player on the bench to replace the guy Singleton just PH for...go for it?

Look, I know we would love to say that Jose Abreu just got Wally Pipp'ed, but in reality, Jon Singleton is probably going to get Dusty Baker'ed.
