I read the books years and years ago, but the plot and pacing dont seem to be following the books very closely. Very generally, the core elements of the story are there but I dont remember

...all this intrigue with the hard drive right out of the gate. Iirc the books started very slowly and was mostly about fleshing out what life in the Silo was like.

Someone correct me if im remembering wrong.

Edit - apparently I'm wrong. First EPISODE covered most of the first book. Guess its been a while.

Saw the first episode, found it interesting. Looking forward to the rest of the story.

Watched the first two eps. Really liking it. A little different than the books but that’s fine.

Binged three episodes. Was good and the two noticeable quirks in the third one were actually plot points to notice.

Not a book reader but some of those ep reviews are borderline spoiler rific.

The screen flicker on shutdown…was there a reaction by the people

how she was sprayed by steam in the valve room, while drowning in that hot water and she walked it off like a water gun fight…wasn’t spoiled why but only confirmed it was a detail

    Gotcha.

1st was obvious (hence the quick reaction shots of some in the room)

    2nd I didn't think about. Hmmmm.

they looked ambiguously dumbfounded or traumatized without looking at others or talking about it.

Turns out that's part of the police state vibe they were getting at

I'm a book reader and a major SF fan and somehow missed these novels. Go figure.

Can someone tell me if it's worth reading the novels first, and then watching the series? I'm kinda in the mood for some instant gratification, as in watching the series. I like the cast.

    Well, yeah

That's a natural human response, right? Say you've never seen the sun or moon or stars or whatever before, and now BOOM there they are, but just for a second. I'd be a bit slackjawed and dumbfounded myself.

The book series is incredible IMO. If the series is going to follow the story, they will need 3-4 seasons

Wool — the first “book” in the series — was actually a collection of short stores/novellas. Hugh Howey self-published Holston as a short-story eBook, to begin with. It was so successful, that by popular demand, he wrote more novellas to go with it.

I’d say just watch the show, but since Holston — the first 41 pages of Wool — was a complete, and very successful, short-story, maybe read that first. That will immerse you in detail about life in the Silo. While I am liking the first 3 episodes, as common in TV series, the level of detail in the books adds to the fun of watching the show, to see how the show-runners portray things vs our imagination. Reading Holston will give you a better background to life in the Silo.

Finally shaping up to get some answers soon. It's been a pretty dull mid arc. Still pretty interesting watch, although not a fan of Common's acting.
