Our society is quite soft.

 

Latinx is so stupid, although I don't see it nearly as often as it's made out to be. I used to see it on survey forms sometimes, I think more for grammatical neatness than any social reason (as in, to avoid writing Latin(o/a) or something sloppy like that). I've seen a few of my latino friends use it when talking about LGBT stuff, but that's extremely rare. It's always annoying trying to bring gendered languages into non-gendered language; and most of the rules we use for English don't get followed anyway.

The term Latino in itself is a cluster****, and a very American idea at that. My friend's wife is considered white in El Salvador, but not white in America because she grew up speaking Spanish. She has a very dark complexion but some of her friends look like they're from a Nordic country. Then there's the debate over whether or not geography is more important than language (Haiti and Brazil don't speak Spanish, but Spain is halfway across the world).

I wouldn't be surprised if the term fades over time; particularly as future generations marry into non-Latino families. Well that, and we'll eventually all just speak that goo-back language from South Park that's a mix of Spanish Arabic Chinese and English
