I am interested in reading some really well-written and interesting biographies about historic figures. Anyone got suggestions on titles and authors?

Start with John Adams by David McCullough. If you like it, then there are more of his books to choose from.

I was going to say anything by David McCullough. Ditto with David Halberstram. Team of Rivals by Goodwin. Blight's biography of Frederick Douglass. I also really enjoyed David Reynolds's biography of Lincoln recently. so much good stuff out there

    Excellent choice.

Ron Chernow also has some very good biographies.

Yall have already posted several I would recommend:

    Truman and Adams by McCullough
Blood and Thunder (Kit Carson) by Hampton Sides
    Churchill by Martin Gilbert
    Theodore Roosevelt by Henry Pringle
Undaunted Courage (Lewis and Clark) by Stephen Ambrose

All of the Robert Caro LBJ books

There's a ton of great books about Texas history, but they're more historical than biographical.

Good thread, you made me find this on google: https://reedsy.com/discovery/blog/best-biographies There's stuff on here that I didn't know I wanted to read until now.

Did Halberstam write a bio of anyone? He's awesome but I can't think of one...

Best and the Brightest comes close. The Fifties is a biography of a decade. Just a good writer generally
